2025 Fantasy Outlook
The top pop-up prospect of 2024, Campbell slashed .329/.437/.551 with 20 home runs, 24 steals and a 20 percent strikeout rate in 115 games across the top three levels of the minor leagues. Selected with the No. 132 overall pick in 2023, Campbell signed for just under $500K and now he has a chance of winning a spot on the Opening Day roster in 2025. While Campbell received 25-plus starts at shortstop, center field and second base last year, it's pretty clear that second base is where he fits on this roster, where David Hamilton is the top incumbent and Vaughn Grissom also hopes to figure into things. Campbell has a much higher ceiling than Hamilton or Grissom and may not be a short-term downgrade, so it would make sense for the Red Sox to break camp with Campbell if they think he's ready, as he could net them a Prospect Promotion Incentive Pick. There aren't any obvious flaws with Campbell, although 2024 was his first year hitting for notable power -- he had a higher slugging percentage last year than he did at any stop as an amateur. If he looks like the same player in spring training, momentum will build in the redraft market, and he's already a locked in top-10 dynasty prospect. Read Past Outlooks

Playing game at 1B over weekend

May 28, 2025
Manager Alex Cora said Wednesday that Campbell will play first base during one game of Boston's three-game series in Atlanta that starts Friday, Sean McAdam of MassLive.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The Red Sox have been searching for an answer at first base since Triston Casas (knee) suffered a season-ending injury in early May, and the search became even more dire a week later when Romy Gonzalez (quadriceps) hit the injured list. Campbell began taking first-base reps during pregame warmups shortly after Gonzalez's injury, and he'll get his first crack at in-game action this weekend. The 23-year-old rookie is slashing .225/.312/.354 in 202 plate appearances this season.

Campbell is working at first base in infield drills ahead of Friday's game versus Atlanta, Ian Browne of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The Red Sox are testing out potential solutions at first base with Triston Casas out for the season after knee surgery and Rafael Devers refusing to again change positions. Campbell has spent most of his time at second base this season but has also made six appearances in the outfield. The 22-year-old was named the American League Rookie of the Month for March and April with a .902 OPS, though he's gone just 4-for-39 with 13 strikeouts so far in May.
