Sam Long News: Opts for free agency

Long elected to become a free agent Friday.

The Royals booted Long off their 40-man roster and he has decided to test out free agency rather than accepting an outright assignment to the minors. Long pitched well for Kansas City in 2024 but struggled in 2025, posting a 5.36 ERA and 33:22 K:BB over 40.1 innings.
