Matos now has nearly 600 career plate appearances with the big league club, and despite a solid 14.7% strikeout rate and a decent 6.0% walk rate, Matos's career line is .231/.281/.369. Over the past three seasons, Matos possesses the lowest batting average of any player with at least 500 plate appearances and a strikeout rate below 15%, leading Santiago Espinal by 14 points. That's the challenge with Matos: he makes a lot of contact but has not done much with it. In his defense, he has had awful BABIP fortunes each of the past two seasons and something has to give soon. He did show more pull power in 2025, which was a positive sign given he does not turn 24 until late January.
