Walker should reprise his long man/fifth starter role in 2026 with the Phillies. When everyone is healthy and performing, Walker should be operating as a long reliever, but Zack Wheeler (thoracic outlet decompression surgery) is questionable for Opening Day and prospect Andrew Painter will presumably need to earn a rotation spot in camp. If one or both of Wheeler/Painter aren't ready, Walker should be in Philadelphia's rotation. Walker leaned on his cutter, splitter and sinker in 2025, and he outperformed the fielding-independent indicators with a 4.08 ERA (5.07 FIP, 4.73 xFIP, 4.49 xERA). Walker's 1.41 WHIP was unsightly but not out of character, as he had a 1.44 WHIP from 2023 through 2024. Among 127 pitchers who threw 100-plus innings in the majors last year, Walker's 16 percent strikeout rate ranked 12th worst, so he's about as bad of a strikeout streamer as there is. He struck out five or more batters in five of his 34 appearances last year. Walker turns 34 in August and will be a free agent after the season. Read Past Outlooks
