2025 Fantasy Outlook
Treinen opened the 2024 campaign on the injured list with a bruised lung after taking a comebacker off his chest during Cactus League play. The veteran reliever didn't make his season debut until early May, but immediately pitched high-leverage innings for the Dodgers, kicking things off with a 14-game scoreless streak. Hip discomfort would sideline Treinen for a few weeks in August, but he closed out the regular season with a 15-game scoreless streak, spanning 15.1 innings with an 18:2 K:BB and 0.52 WHIP. That streak extends to 20 games including the playoffs, where Treinen shined with two wins, three saves and two holds in nine appearances. The 36-year-old signed a 2-year, $22 million deal to return to Los Angeles, where he should continue to fill a high-leverage role. However, Treinen seems likely to serve as more of a setup man than closer, especially with the Dodgers signing Tanner Scott to a $72 million contract. Read Past Outlooks

Continues late-season struggles
Treinen (1-7) was charged with a loss and a blown save against San Francisco on Sunday, allowing three runs on three hits and two walks with no strikeouts over two-thirds of an inning.
Analysis
After Emmet Sheehan gave the Dodgers seven scoreless, one-hit innings, Treinen entered in the eighth to try to preserve a 1-0 lead. The veteran reliever got into trouble immediately, allowing a pair of singles and then a ground-rule, run-scoring double as San Francisco tied the score. Treinen next retired his first batter, but he followed an intentional walk with a non-intentional one to force in another run, then allowed an RBI groundout for the final tally on his line. It's been a very rough September for the right-hander, who has posted an uncharacteristic 11.57 ERA, 2.43 WHIP and 6:9 K:BB while taking five losses over nine appearances spanning seven innings this month. Treinen was a big part of Los Angeles' run to the championship last year, but it's fair to wonder if manager Dave Roberts will feel comfortable going to him in high-leverage situations at the start of the postseason given Treinen's recent struggles.

Treinen was forced to miss the 2023 season after undergoing shoulder surgery in November 2022, but he'll remain with the Dodgers after they exercised his $1 million club option for the upcoming campaign. The 35-year-old started a minor-league rehab assignment last August, but it was paused after just three appearances and 2.1 innings due to soreness in his shoulder. Due to the setback, it's unclear whether the veteran righty will be healthy in time for spring training. Los Angeles clearly values Treinen's experience in high-leverage situations, but he'll first need to get past his shoulder issues and prove he can still pitch at a high level to earn a role in the 2024 bullpen.

Gets added competition
Treinen is the presumptive favorite to close for the Dodgers next year if Kenley Jansen departs in free agency, though new addition Daniel Hudson could challenge for the role.
Analysis
Hudson joined the Dodgers on a one-year, $7 million deal Monday, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports. Treinen was electric in 2021 and would seemingly be next up if Jansen leaves, though Hudson could push for the role. At the very least, the latter should have a prominent role in the bullpen.
