Fills in admirably against Orioles
Suter took a no-decision Sunday at Baltimore. He struck out one over three scoreless innings while yielding three hits and no walks.
ANALYSIS
The veteran southpaw was called upon to sub in for Carson Spiers (shoulder), who hit the injured list before this game. Suter was solid, generating six whiffs out of his 63 total pitches. With this effort, the 35-year-old now sports a 1.86 ERA and 0.83 WHIP across 9.2 innings. Suter probably will not make another start, as Nick Lodolo (personal) should return soon to fill the empty rotation spot.

It's certainly not easy getting big-league hitters out with a fastball that sits in the mid-80s, but Suter has figured out how. He's not just getting by, either, as over the past two seasons, he posted a 9.5 K/9 and a minuscule 0.92 WHIP. He leaned on his "heater," throwing that pitch just under 80 percent of the time, and mixed in just enough curveballs and changeups to keep hitters constantly off balance. Suter is most effective in small doses, and for that reason he is primarily a reliever at this point. He's a long reliever at that, so naturally he does not often get the chance to make a mark in the wins and saves categories, but he's worth considering in NL-only leagues to help balance the ratios.

Latest Fantasy Rumors

Fit for Yankees?
The Yankees have been in pursuit of multiple unknown Reds relievers, and Suter would make sense as a possible trade target, reports Pat Ragazzo of SI.com.
ANALYSIS
The soft-tossing southpaw joined Cincinnati on a one-year, $2.5 million contract during the offseason that includes a $3.5 million club option for 2025. Suter has more or less performed as advertised with a 3.73 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 40:10 K:BB over 50.2 innings being in line with his career averages. The Yankees could use some lefty help in the bullpen, and Suter would fit that bill without requiring a significant trade package.
