Rest-of-Season Projections
2025 Fantasy Outlook
Sullivan showed some surprising power in Triple-A last season, belting 17 home runs over 450 plate appearances (his previous high mark was 13 long balls in 501 PAs in Single-A in 2016). He also got a couple short stints with the Padres but didn't produce much, going 3-for-16 with a homer across seven contests. Sullivan will be 31 years old at the start of the 2025 campaign and has just 40 big-league games under his belt, so there's not much of a fantasy angle here. The departure of Kyle Higashioka boosts Sullivan's chance of claiming San Diego's No. 2 backstop role, but the team signed veteran Martin Maldonado to a minor-league deal in mid-January, and the Padres may value his experience and clubhouse leadership over any offensive advantage Sullivan might offer. Promoted to majors
The Pirates selected Sullivan's contract from Triple-A Indianapolis on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
With Endy Rodriguez (elbow) placed on the 10-day injured list and Joey Bart still in the concussion protocol, Sullivan will be brought up to serve as the Pirates' backup catcher behind Henry Davis. Sullivan was acquired by the Pirates in April from the Padres, and he has a .211/.350/.324 with two steals, one home run and 10 RBI across 76 plate appearances with Indianapolis.

Todd Zola explains how projected playing time and a skills-based approach helps him identify upside plays late in a draft, as well as leading him to put Aaron Judge at the top of his personal rankings.
Past Fantasy Outlooks
2024
2021
2017
Sullivan debuted in 2023 but failed to take advantage of San Diego's unsettled catching situation with a .528 OPS in 33 games, though he did hit .328 at Triple-A. Luis Campusano and Kyle Higashioka should enter spring training as the clear No. 1 and 2 options behind the plate, but Sullivan is a decent bet to receive another look at some point in 2024.

Call-up after Rodriguez injury?
Sullivan has a locker in the Pirates' clubhouse ahead of Saturday's game against the Phillies, Danny Demilio of PittsburghBaseballNow.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Endy Rodriguez was removed from Friday's game against Philadelphia after tweaking his right elbow on a throw to second base. The presence of Sullivan's locker indicates that Rodriguez's injury is severe enough for him to warrant a stint on the injured list. Sullivan joined the Pirates organization in April after being traded by the Padres. He's played in 20 games for Triple-A Indianapolis and is slashing .211/.250/.324 with two steals, one home run and 10 RBI across 76 plate appearances. Sullivan would be slated to serve as the backup catcher behind Henry Davis if Rodriguez goes on the IL.
