2025 Fantasy Outlook
Sullivan showed some surprising power in Triple-A last season, belting 17 home runs over 450 plate appearances (his previous high mark was 13 long balls in 501 PAs in Single-A in 2016). He also got a couple short stints with the Padres but didn't produce much, going 3-for-16 with a homer across seven contests. Sullivan will be 31 years old at the start of the 2025 campaign and has just 40 big-league games under his belt, so there's not much of a fantasy angle here. The departure of Kyle Higashioka boosts Sullivan's chance of claiming San Diego's No. 2 backstop role, but the team signed veteran Martin Maldonado to a minor-league deal in mid-January, and the Padres may value his experience and clubhouse leadership over any offensive advantage Sullivan might offer. Sullivan debuted in 2023 but failed to take advantage of San Diego's unsettled catching situation with a .528 OPS in 33 games, though he did hit .328 at Triple-A. Luis Campusano and Kyle Higashioka should enter spring training as the clear No. 1 and 2 options behind the plate, but Sullivan is a decent bet to receive another look at some point in 2024.
