2025 Fantasy Outlook
The Red Sox were already in the market for potential backup catchers when they shipped prosect Kyle Teel to the White Sox as part of the package to acquire Garrett Crochet. Narvaez was first of two backstops acquired via trade during the offseason, and he'll compete with the second acquisition, Blake Sobol, to back up Connor Wong. Sabol (121 games) has more MLB experience than Narvaez (six), but the latter was better in the minors at throwing out would-be base stealers. Wong has been durable since elevating to Boston's top catcher, playing 126 games in each of the last two seasons. The victor in the Narvaez/Sabol battle is not expected to get many starts. Analysis
Narvaez played through a meniscus injury in his knee for much of the second half of the regular season and the playoffs before having a cleanup procedure Wednesday. He is expected to be fully recovered before spring training and should enter the 2026 season as Boston's top catcher after slashing .241/.306/.419 with 15 home runs in 118 contests.
