2025 Fantasy Outlook
Control woes continue to plague the Giants' top pitching prospect in 2024. Whisenhunt started 25 games for Triple-A Sacramento, registering an impressive 28.4 percent strikeout rate, but he also logged a generous 11.3 percent walk rate. The 24-year-old southpaw throws a 93-mph sinker, cutter, slider and change-up (which is his best pitch). Metrics like BABIP are unreliable in the Pacific Coast League, but the .369 mark Whisenhunt recorded last season is inflated. The lefty will likely open the year back with the River Cats, ostensibly working on throwing strikes. Last year, 63.7 percent of his pitches were strikes, but since the major league average was 64.3 percent, a modest improvement could put him in the mix for a rotation spot with the Giants. Considering only Logan Webb has a reliable track record, Whisenhunt could force the issue. Read Past Outlooks

Looking ready at Triple-A
Whisenhunt has a 1.71 ERA, 0.81 WHIP and a 23:1 K:BB in 21 innings over his last three starts for Triple-A Sacramento.
ANALYSIS
He gave up seven runs on nine hits and three walks with one strikeout in three innings April 25 against El Paso, but Whisenhunt has been lights out since, going seven innings per start. Whisenhunt sits 92-93 mph with his fastball, but the 24-year-old lefty has one of the best changeups in the minors and he mixes in his average slider roughly 30 percent of the time.

Latest Fantasy Rumors

Could debut this year?
Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle indicated "there will be a lot of rumbling" about adding Whisenhunt to the Giants' rotation after Alex Cobb was placed on the 15-day injured list Sunday with an oblique injury.
ANALYSIS
The 66th overall pick in the 2022 Draft, Whisenhunt has already made his way up to Double-A Richmond. The 22-year-old has a 2.45 ERA and 68:15 K:BB in 47.2 innings across three minor-league levels this year, and a promotion to Triple-A, or even the majors, could be on the horizon if he continues to pitch well. The lefty isn't a likely bet to be called up in the immediate future but could be an option later in the summer.
