2025 Fantasy Outlook
The right-hander turned 41 years old in November and signed with Baltimore for his 18th MLB season after a four-year run in Atlanta. He was a reliable rotation piece during that span and closed out 2024 with a 4.19 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 167:65 K:BB across 165.1 innings. That's only about a half-run higher than the ERA from the prime of his career, and he's made at least 30 starts in each of the past six full-length seasons. Morton lost a little bit of his velocity with an average fastball of 94 mph, and his 23.8 percent strikeout rate was his worst mark since 2015. Father Time is certainly creeping up on Morton, but he's managed to remain an effective back-end starter to this point, and he could provide fantasy managers with some strikeouts and innings if they're comfortable with the age risks. Read Past Outlooks

Early exit Saturday
Morton allowed four runs on six hits and four walks while striking out five over 2.1 innings in a no-decision versus the Athletics on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
Morton had seemingly turned a corner with two successful starts in a row since returning to the rotation, but he faltered again Saturday. He threw 76 pitches (42 strikes) in this effort, which saw him give up all four runs in the first inning, though the Orioles were able to overcome the early deficit. Morton has generally been better since the start of May after a brief shift to the bullpen, but it continues to be tough to trust the 41-year-old from one outing to the next. He's at a 6.59 ERA, 1.70 WHIP and 57:31 K:BB through 56 innings over 15 appearances (nine starts) this season. Morton's next start is tentatively projected to be at home versus the Angels.

Morton continued to fend off Father Time by starting 30 games. He's started at least that many every season since 2018, excluding the truncated 2020 campaign. Morton's control showed signs of age as he posted an 11.6 percent walk rate, the highest since his rookie season. His 25.6 percent strikeout rate dropped a couple of ticks, but it was still within range of the previous few seasons. Morton's elevated walk rate resulted in his highest WHIP since 2012, but Lady Luck was on his side with a low 9.4 percent home run per fly ball rate and a 77.6 percent left on base mark, keeping his ERA in check, albeit at least half a run below the associated estimators. Morton's didn't lose any velocity, but it's still fair to be worried about his spike in control. Atlanta isn't concerned as they picked up Morton's $20 million team option for his 40-year-old season. Hoping for one more productive season is defensible, but Morton should be considered a luxury item, and not counted on as a staff staple.

Latest Fantasy Rumors

Candidate to be traded
Morton is a likely candidate to be traded before the deadline, Jim Bowden of The Athletic speculates.
ANALYSIS
The Orioles have had a disappointing season in 2025, and it wouldn't be surprising to see Morton's name involved in trade talks over the upcoming weeks since he's an established big-league veteran. That said, the right-hander has a 6.59 ERA across 15 starts, so he might need to turn a corner to generate trade interest.
