2025 Fantasy Outlook
DeLauter played zero games in 2022 (his draft year) due to a broken foot. In 2023, he played 57 regular-season games and 23 games in the Arizona Fall League. He played 39 games in 2024 and another 11 in the AFL. Excluding the AFL but including rehab assignments, he has only played 96 games since getting selected in the middle of the first round in 2022. He is a career .317/.387/.517 hitter with 13 home runs, seven steals and a 12.8 percent strikeout rate in those 96 games, and he's essentially mastered the minor leagues in that limited sample, so he could still be a big part of Cleveland's future. However, at 6-foot-3, 235 pounds and with a lengthy track record of lower-body injuries, the durability risk is off the charts and there's a chance he stops running and slides to first base or designated hitter in an effort to keep his bat in the lineup. Included on wild-card roster
The Guardians selected DeLauter's contract from Triple-A Columbus on Tuesday.
Analysis
DeLauter has not played since undergoing right wrist surgery in July, having finished the season on the 7-day injured list at Columbus. He's healthy now, however, and the Guardians have elected to include the talented-but-injury-prone outfielder on their wild-card roster. DeLauter slashed .278/.383/.476 with five home runs in 149 plate appearances for Columbus this season and will be making his major-league debut when/if he gets into a game. The left-handed-hitting DeLauter is not in the lineup for Game 1 against southpaw Tarik Skubal, and it's unclear whether Cleveland will give him some playing time against righties.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2024
2023
The Guardians' big-league outfield is light on offensive impact potential, but that will change when DeLauter gets the call. The No. 16 overall pick in 2022, DeLauter broke his left foot midway through his junior year with James Madison and then broke a toe on that same foot during his rehab, so he didn't make his pro debut until June of 2023. He quickly made up for lost time, slashing .355/.417/.528 with five home runs, 22 doubles and six steals in 57 games across rookie ball, High-A and Double-A, with the bulk of those at-bats coming at High-A. A hulking 6-foot-4, 235-pound outfielder who can currently handle all three spots, DeLauter added to his 2023 ledger with a .299/.385/.529 line, five home runs and more walks than strikeouts in 23 Arizona Fall League games. Given his size and the physical nature of his game, it's a bit concerning that he has suffered multiple fractures on the same foot at this stage of his career, but DeLauter has looked like the best player on the field in most of the games he's played in over the past few years. He had 11 steals on 15 attempts in his 80 games last year, so while his speed should trend down in the coming years, DeLauter could be a five-category contributor in his early-20s. Despite the fact he only played six games at Double-A, DeLauter will likely look big-league ready early in 2024, so he's a viable high-upside flyer in draft-and-hold leagues.
