2025 Fantasy Outlook
After a breakout 2023 with Tampa Bay and a good start to 2024, Paredes was shipped to the Cubs over the summer prior to the trade deadline. The move returned him to the team that drafted him back in 2015, though he never actually played for Chicago during that previous stint, as he was traded to Detroit as a prospect in 2018. Paredes struggled a bit initially in his debut for the Cubs, and his OPS across 52 games with his new team was just .632, compared to the .792 OPS he posted in 101 games for the Rays. Still just 25 years old, Paredes should be able to get back on track in 2025. He popped 20 home runs and recorded a .739 OPS as a 23-year-old back in 2022, then followed that up with 31 long balls and an .840 OPS a year later. Paredes also tallied an impressive 98 RBI during that 2023 campaign. The young infielder is just a .232 career hitter and may never make huge strides there, but he's already displayed good power potential at the MLB level, and that's where he should be able to once again make his mark in 2025. Being traded to Houston should allow Paredes to boost his power numbers since he's a pull hitter that will now have the advantage of the Crawford Boxes. Read Past Outlooks

Gets back on track with solo homer
Paredes went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Tuesday's win over Toronto.
ANALYSIS
The infielder followed up a three-game homer streak in mid-April with a 3-for-24 skid with no extra-base hits, but he got back on track Tuesday with a seventh-inning shot to give the Astros a late insurance run. Through his first 100 plate appearances, Paredes is slashing .233/.340/.384 with four long balls, one double, 13 RBI and 10 runs scored. As long as he maintains a spot in the heart of Houston's lineup, Paredes should have plenty of RBI chances going forward.

Paredes had a wonderful breakout season becoming a full-time threat in the Tampa Bay lineup while playing three of the four infield positions. Paredes has a simple approach in that he is up there to pull baseballs, ideally over the fence since he is not the fleetest of foot. Paredes hit all 31 of his homers to left field, and in fact has hit all 53 of his career major league homers to left field. Not only does he pull a lot of baseballs, he also hits a high volume of flyballs which limits his batting average upside despite that he is both accepting of walks and does not strike out as much as one would imagine. His 98 RBI season appeared with him hitting .295 with runners in scoring position after hitting just .175 in those same situations in 2022. RISP production is not a skill so this could evaporate as quickly as it appeared which means the variability of his potential fantasy value in 2024 is rather wide. 2022 is a reminder of his downside.

Latest Fantasy Rumors

Move to 2B still possible
The Cardinals and Astros have re-engaged in trade talks surrounding Nolan Arenado, re-opening the possibility of Paredes shifting to second base, reports Chandler Rome and Katie Woo of The Athletic.
ANALYSIS
Paredes appeared locked in at the hot corner once Alex Bregman signed with the Red Sox in mid-February, but the Astros are apparently still interested in adding a third baseman. Arenado already utilized his no-trade clause to reject a potential deal to Houston in December, and he still isn't expected to approve such a deal despite the two clubs rekindling talks. In all likelihood Paredes will begin 2025 as the Astros' primary third baseman.
