Jordan Beck

24-Year-Old OutfielderOF
Colorado Rockies
2025 Fantasy Outlook
Beck got a rude awakening against major-league pitching last season after lighting up the Pacific Coast League, slashing just .188/.245/.277 across his first 184 MLB plate appearances. His strikeout rate shot up to 35 percent against big-league competition, which gave him little chance. He turned in a 20-20 season in the minors in 2023, so he has more power than he showed as a rookie. Beck was a supplemental first-round pick in 2022 and the Rockies will be hoping he can contribute more this season, although perhaps not as a regular to begin the campaign. He looked overmatched last year, but Beck is still just 23 years old entering 2025 and Coors Field can flip the narrative in a hurry. Read Past Outlooks

Beck went 1-for-4 with a triple, three RBI and a run scored Saturday against the Nationals.
ANALYSIS
Beck was recalled to provide some extra depth due to Brenton Doyle (quadriceps/personal) being away from the team. The former immediately drew a start with a lefty on the mound and delivered a three-RBI triple in the seventh inning. Beck is likely to serve in a small-side platoon role, though his playing time will be worth monitoring until Doyle returns.

Stat Review
How does Jordan Beck compare to other hitters?
This section compares his stats with all batting seasons from the previous three seasons (minimum 400 plate appearances)*. The bar represents the player's percentile rank. For example, if the bar is halfway across, then the player falls into the 50th percentile for that stat and it would be considered average.

* Exit Velocity and Barrels/PA % are benchmarked against 2019 data (min 400 PA) and Hard Hit Rate is benchmarked against last season's data (min 400 PA). See here for more exit velocity/barrels stats plus an explanation of current limitations with that data set.
  • BB/K
    Walk to strikeout ratio
  • BB Rate
The percentage of plate appearances resulting in a walk.
  • K Rate
The percentage of plate appearances resulting in a strikeout.
  • BABIP

  • wOBA
Weighted on-base average. Measures a player's overall offensive contributions per plate appearance. wOBA combines all the different aspects of hitting into one metric, weighting each of them in proportion to their actual run value.
  • Exit Velocity
The speed of the baseball as it comes off the bat, immediately after a batter makes contact.
  • Hard Hit Rate
A measure of contact quality from Sports Info Solutions. This stat explains what percentage of batted balls were hit hard vs. medium or soft.
  • Barrels/PA
The percentage of plate appearances where a batter had a batted ball classified as a Barrel. A Barrel is a batted ball with similar exit velocity and launch angle to past ones that led to a minimum .500 batting average and 1.500 slugging percentage.
  • Expected BA
    Expected Batting Average.
  • Expected SLG
    Expected Slugging Percentage.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2024
2023
A broad-shouldered, athletic 6-foot-3, 225-pound outfielder who the Rockies selected 38th overall in 2022, Beck dominated as an older hitter with a hitter-friendly home park at High-A Spokane. He slashed .292/.378/.566 with 20 home runs, 11 steals and a 20.8 percent strikeout rate in 76 games before getting promoted to Double-A. Predictably, Beck's production fell off in a more age-appropriate league, slashing .240/.342/.406 with five home runs, nine steals and a 31.8 percent strikeout rate in 50 games at Double-A. He swings and misses too much in the zone, taking big hacks with an aim to do damage on contact. Beck will need to cut his strikeout rate in a return to Double-A, and if he can do that, there's a chance he can make it as a Jack Suwinski/James Outman type of power/speed outfielder whose batting average is his biggest weakness.
A right fielder who draws some comparisons to Hunter Renfroe, Beck ran a 20.9 K% and 12.5 BB% as a junior, which aren't the greatest marks for a bat-first position player in college. He slashed .298/.391/.595 with 18 home runs in 66 games as a junior and was a .284 hitter in three seasons at Tennessee, which suggests he will not add value with his batting average once he gets to the majors. However, like Renfroe, he could still be a net positive due to his power and potential to play every day. The 6-foot-3 righty hitter was impressive in his brief pro debut (20:21 K:BB), but he was facing low-level pitching. If he can carry that success over at High-A and Double-A, he will steadily climb rankings.
