2025 Fantasy Outlook
The Athletics' final season in Oakland was largely forgettable from an on-field standpoint, but Butler's emergence was a nice surprise. A three-homer game on the final day before the All-Star break sparked an incredible run in which the outfielder slashed .316/.361/.611 over a 60-game span, which included a second three-homer game Aug. 26. He launched 16 home runs during that stretch after totaling six long balls in his first 63 games of the season. While he's not a burner in terms of sprint speed, ranking only in the 58th percentile, he went a perfect 18-for-18 on steal attempts, which shows good instincts and the ability to read opposing pitchers. His strikeout rate was manageable at 23.9 percent and Butler, a lefty slugger, hit lefty pitching even better than he did righties. The walk rate could use some work, but the 24-year-old showed enough to safely project as the starting right fielder as the A's begin a new chapter in West Sacramento. Read Past Outlooks

2024 Fantasy Outlook
Drafted in the sixth round in 2018, Butler reached the majors last August at the age of 23. The success he enjoyed at Double-A and Triple-A did not immediately translate, as Butler struggled to a .582 OPS in 42 games with the A's after posting an .825 OPS across the top two levels of the minor leagues. He can punish a breaking ball left in the strike zone, but Butler may be overmatched against big-league velocity; he managed just two extra-base hits against 236 major-league fastballs last season. The x-factor here is his speed, which in theory helps boost his floor. He has reached 20 stolen bases twice in the minors. While he won't be handed anything out of camp, the lefty-hitting Butler figures to get a look in center field for an Oakland club with nothing to lose.
