2025 Fantasy Outlook
Garcia made the Nationals' 2024 Opening Day roster as the only left-hander out of their bullpen. The 28-year-old was one of Washington's most dependable relievers, which afforded him more high-leverage opportunities than he has previously received in his young career. Garcia racked up 13 holds while recording career-highs in games played (72) and innings pitched (59.2). His 23.5 K-BB percentage ranked 18th among qualified relievers thanks to strikeout and walk rates that were both well above-average. Garcia's 4.22 ERA is a glaring blemish, but a 2.38 FIP, 2.71 SIERA and 2.53 xERA (97th percentile) all suggest he was unlucky in that department. He also posted 98th percentile metrics in hard-hit percentage allowed (30.2 percent) and barrel percentage allowed (3.1 percent). Garcia was a top internal candidate to replace Kyle Finnegan as Washington's closer in 2025, but he was instead traded to Texas. The Rangers don't have a clear solution to the ninth inning either, so Garcia could be in the mix to close along with veteran Chris Martin, who has traditionally served as a setup man. Registers rare save Thursday
Garcia earned the save in Thursday's win 5-3 over the Angels, throwing a clean ninth inning and striking out one.
ANALYSIS
Garcia didn't have to do much to net his first save of the year, inducing two quick groundouts after fanning the leadoff batter on three pitches. Each of his five pitches overall landed for strikes. Closer Luke Jackson worked each of the past two days, and setup man Chris Martin was summoned to retire the top of the Angels' lineup in the eighth inning. That said, Garcia has five holds as opposed to one save in 2025, so he's unlikely to see very much ninth-inning work going forward despite producing a 2.00 ERA, 0.89 WHIP and 8:3 K:BB through nine frames of work.
