2025 Fantasy Outlook
Gusto was slated to make his big-league debut on the final day of the 2024 season as a starter against the Guardians, but the game got canceled due to inclement weather. The 25-year-old righty still found his way onto the 40-man roster and has been mentioned this offseason by manager Joe Espada as a big-league rotation option heading into 2025. Gusto's only above-average pitch is his changeup, while his low-90s fastball is unremarkable and he throws a pair of OK breaking balls. It's his above-average control that could allow him to have success in the right matchup. Gusto logged a strong 8.5 percent walk rate in 148.1 innings at Triple-A last year, but his 22.6 percent strikeout rate was the worst mark of his career. In Houston's final series of the first half, Gusto came on in long relief July 11 following a short start by Lance McCullers, and he made a pair of one-inning appearances in last weekend's series in Seattle. McCullers has since been placed on the injured list due to a blister on his right hand, so Gusto could be needed once again to plug one of the holes in the rotation.
