Rest-of-Season Projections
2025 Fantasy Outlook
Strider's 2024 season lasted all of nine innings when a bone fragment cut into his UCL and attempted to undo the repairs done by his 2019 Tommy John surgery. The good news is that this injury was not a complete tear, so Dr. Keith Meister was able to use the internal brace procedure to repair it in mid-April. The most recent pitcher to come back from this procedure was Tampa Bay's Drew Rasmussen who had his surgery in late July 2023 and returned in 2024 to pitch rather effectively, albeit for just 36 innings between Triple-A and the big leagues. Bryan Woo had the surgery in early April of 2021 and worked just under 60 innings at the lower levels of the minor leagues in 2022. The simple fact is we do not know how much Strider will be able to pitch in 2025. The internal brace procedure has a shorter recovery time than full Tommy John surgery, but someone being back on the mound and being back to their presurgery level of performance are two different matters. The risk/reward here is tremendous, but drafting Strider as a staff ace and then potentially seeing him work below 100 innings in 2025 would have trickle-down effects to many fantasy rosters. We've yet to see a starting pitcher have this surgery and resume a presurgery workload the following season. Perhaps Strider will be the first, but don't count on it. Read Past Outlooks

Dealing with Grade 1 strain
Strider was diagnosed with a Grade 1 strain of his right hamstring Tuesday, and his return timeline is expected to be determined over the next couple weeks, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
It's an encouraging diagnosis after Strider landed on the injured list Monday, though he still seems set to spend more than the 15-day minimum on the shelf. After recovering from the internal brace procedure he underwent on his elbow last year, the right-hander was able to make just one start in 2025 before suffering the hamstring injury.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2024
2023
Strider led the National League in wins, strikeouts, and FIP, and would have won the NL Cy Young Award if not for that meddling lefty in San Diego. It was an incredible season of work for the talented pitcher out of Clemson, so when things are *this* good, we should look at how things could go in a different direction because it is more likely to happen than Strider continuing to ascent at such a rapid rate given there isn't much else he can do better than what he has done thus far. Strider just saw his workload increase 49% year over year when you factor in his postseason work from each of the past two seasons, and that happened at the age of 24. Recent names who threw at least 180 innings at such a young age include McKenzie and Manoah in 2022 and Urias in 2021. Urias did just fine the next season but the other two certainly had issues. The list is longer than space permits in this recap, but the odds lean to Strider backsliding a bit in fantasy value for 2024.

Latest Fantasy Rumors

Using slider more this season
Strider, who is scheduled to start Game 1 of Monday's doubleheader against the Mets after two straight postponements, has increased the usage of his slider to 34.9 percent through his first five outings of 2023, per David O'Brien of The Athletic.
ANALYSIS
The right-hander's fastball usage is down slightly to 59.1 percent, but he remains reliant on those two pitches. A two-pitch mix is usually a major limitation for starting pitchers, but Strider continues to dominate with a 1.80 ERA, 0.83 WHIP and 49:11 K:BB over 30 innings after he finished 2022 with a 2.67 ERA and 202 strikeouts in just 131.2 frames. The 24-year-old also has a changeup he throws 4.3 percent of the time, but there's no real need to further rely on the tertiary pitch while his first two offerings are so dominant.
