It was surprising that Atlanta declined Kinley's $5.5 million option for 2026, as the veteran posted an outstanding 0.72 ERA, 0.68 WHIP and 22:6 K:BB over 25 innings after the team acquired him at last year's trade deadline. In total, the 34-year-old right-hander established new career-highs in games played (73), innings pitched (72.2) and strikeouts (73) while racking up six wins, three saves and 13 holds between Colorado and Atlanta. Analysis
Atlanta declined Kinley's $5.5 million club option for 2026 earlier in the offseason, but the team will now bring the 34-year-old reliever back on a more team-friendly deal that also includes a club option for 2027. Kinley owned a 5.66 ERA and 1.45 WHIP through 47.2 innings when the Rockies shipped him to Atlanta at the trade deadline, at which point the right-hander flipped a switch and posted a 0.72 ERA and 0.68 WHIP across his final 25 frames. He'll likely face a healthy amount of competition for high-leverage opportunities in Atlanta, but his recent body of work should keep him in the mix heading into the new season.

While Kinley's disastrous first half of 2024 (7.65 ERA, 1.75 WHIP in 40 innings) cannot be overlooked, the 33-year-old was actually serviceable for fantasy purposes after the All-Star break, posting a 3.75 ERA and 1.00 WHIP across 24 frames. His overall numbers weren't pretty, but Kinley led Colorado with 12 saves and a 32.4 percent team save share. The right-hander also led Rockie relievers with 15 holds, 72 strikeouts and a 3.22 Win Probability Added. Kinley continues to ride the success of his slider (63 percent usage), but his four-seam fastball has not been effective for years. The 7-year-pro was shut down in September due to elbow inflammation, but assuming he's healthy for spring training, he'll likely head up a 2025 closer triumvirate alongside Victor Vodnik and Seth Halvorsen.
