There are cups of coffee, and then there are shots of espresso. Bernabel was called up in late June, adn out of the gate, he appeared like he was going to be the next big thing in Denver as he went on an immediate heater with 3 homers, 6 runs, and 8 RBIs while hitting .500/.517/1.036 over that first week. That was an amazing week which led to some FAAB spending sprees, only to see Bernabel rapidly come down from that high and hit .189/.231/.252 with 1 more home run the rest of the way over his final 117 plate appearances. Bernabel has slowly climbed his way up the organizational ladder as corner infielder in a rush to put a ball in play and above-average speed for a corner player. Bernabel hit well in the friendly run environments which exist in their affiliates except for Double-A Hartford where he hit under .250 in nearly 800 plate appearances. He is truly an org-type player who may bounce up and down again in 2026, but only 50-round leagues or deep NL-Only leagues should possibly consider him. Read Past Outlooks

The Nationals reassigned Bernabel to minor-league camp Wednesday.
Analysis
Pushed off the Rockies' 40-man roster in the offseason after posting a .698 OPS in 146 plate appearances with the big club in 2025, Bernabel caught on with the Nationals on a minor-league deal in December. Though Washington is heading into 2026 without an established everyday option at first base, Bernabel apparently didn't make a compelling enough of a case for a spot on the Opening Day roster, despite going 3-for-9 with a walk and no strikeouts over his first five Grapefruit League games. Bernabel should be in line for an everyday role in the corner infield at Triple-A Rochester to begin the season.

    The percentage of plate appearances where a batter had a batted ball classified as a Barrel. A Barrel is a batted ball with similar exit velocity and launch angle to past ones that led to a minimum .500 batting average and 1.500 slugging percentage.

2023 Fantasy Outlook
One of the most overrated prospects for dynasty, Bernabel also has one of the most aggressive approaches in the minors. The 20-year-old third baseman has excellent contact skill, but his ability and willingness to make contact with pitches he shouldn't be trying to put in play will make him an easy out against advanced pitchers. He had a total of five walks in 167 plate appearances across High-A and the Arizona Fall League. Bernabel has average power and below-average speed -- throw out his minor-league stolen-base totals when evaluating him.
