Rest-of-Season Projections
2025 Fantasy Outlook
Adames had a down year in 2023 with 24 homers and a career-low .717 OPS, but he rebounded last season in a contract year as he finished with 32 home runs, 112 RBI, 93 runs, 21 steals and a .251/.331/.462 slash line. That set a new career high for homers, which came as the result of an increased 20.6-degree launch angle. It wasn't all roses for Adames in 2024, however, as he took a major step back defensively with minus-16 Defensive Runs Saved and zero Outs Above Average, which is a difference of 24 and 16, respectively, from his 2023 figures in each category. A defensive bounce back in 2025 wouldn't be surprising, but he is unlikely to approach his 2024 offensive production, especially after signing a long-term deal with the Giants. Given that the Brewers were second in the majors in stolen-base attempts and the Giants ranked 28th, there's no reason to project Adames to approach his 21 steals from 2024, and he'll also be playing his home games in the fourth-worst park for righty power, per Statcast (Brewers' home park ranks sixth best). Receiving first day off in 2025
Adames is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against Atlanta, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
ANALYSIS
Adames has started all 65 games (64 at shortstop, one at designated hitter) for the Giants this season, but he'll head to the bench Sunday after going 0-for-18 with four walks and eight strikeouts in his past six contests. The veteran shortstop inked a seven-year, $182 million contract with San Francisco in December, but his tenure has gotten off to a rocky start with a .584 OPS and just five homers in 278 plate appearances.

Adames' 2023 campaign was a frustrating one, as he clubbed 24-plus homers for the third straight year and had a career-best 11.7 percent walk rate, but his .217/.310/.417 slash line left plenty to be desired. He may have deserved some better results with a .242 xBA and .442 SLG, but he saw his hard-hit rate drop by over seven points to 36.1 percent, while he also swung at more pitches out of the zone (a career-high 35.6 percent). He still provided strong defense at shortstop with plus-eight DRS, which is likely why he was able to retain his everyday spot in the lineup. Adames had relatively neutral home/road splits during his first full season with Milwaukee in 2022, but he was awful on the road last year with a .665 OPS. He could be a buy-low candidate for 2024 given his previous success but will obviously come with some risk for fantasy managers, especially if struggles persist away from American Family Field.

New president of baseball operations Buster Posey said during the GM Meetings that it "would be great" if the Giants were able to land a shortstop, and Adames is the marquee shortstop on the free-agent market.
