2026 Fantasy Outlook
Despite making three separate trips to the injured list due to oblique issues, Langford recorded his first career 20-20 season in 2025. The fourth overall pick in 2023, Langford famously reached the majors after just 44 games in the minor leagues. He has more than held his own since being thrown into the deep end, grading out as 15 percent better than league average by wRC+ through two MLB campaigns. Langford's strikeout rate shot up nearly six percentage points last season, which cost him 12 points of batting average. The recurrence of the left oblique strain at the end of the season was troubling, and durability is becoming a concern after the outfielder also missed time with a hamstring injury as a rookie. Entering his age-24 season, Langford is done learning on the job and must now prove that he can stay on the field and anchor the Texas lineup. Read Past Outlooks
Option to play center field
Rangers manager Skip Schumaker said Monday that the team is open to the possibility of using Langford as its center fielder next season, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports.
Analysis
Langford made 97 starts in left field and 36 starts in center field for the Rangers during the 2025 season and was graded with a plus-5 in Outs Above Average at both spots, per Baseball Savant. As things stand right now, the Rangers would likely use Langford in left field and Evan Carter (wrist) in center field next season against right-handed pitching. However, it's possible Langford will shift to center if the club is able to acquire corner outfield help or if Carter is injured. The right-handed-hitting Langford is also an option to play center field versus lefties when the left-handed-hitting Carter sits.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2025
2024
Bucking the traditional prospect path, Langford made the Rangers' Opening Day roster in spring training 2024 and debuted in the big leagues after just 44 games in the minors. The fourth overall pick in 2023, Langford struggled out of the gates last season, posting a .588 OPS through his first 31 MLB games before a right hamstring strain put him on the injured list. He would bat .300 or higher in two of the final fourth months while adding eight homers in September to bring him up to a 110 wRC+ for the season. On the strength of 98th percentile sprint speed, Langford stole 19 bases in 22 attempts. While it wasn't the Rookie of the Year campaign many expected, he showcased a highly advanced plate approach for a 22-year-old (20.6 K%, 9.2 BB%). His strong finish should renew excitement heading into 2025. A step forward could easily vault Langford into the top 15 among fantasy outfielders.
