2025 Fantasy Outlook
Davis has averaged at least 20 points, nine rebounds, two blocks and one steal in all but one season since his rookie campaign in 2012-13, making him an elite per-game fantasy option. However, he's made more than 56 regular-season appearances only twice in the past seven years, making him one of the riskiest picks in fantasy sports. One of the most surprising trades of this generation saw Dallas ship Luka Doncic overnight to the Lakers in exchange for Davis last February. The superstar big man struggled to stay on the court for the Mavericks, who also lost Kyrie Irving to an Achilles tear. However, when available, Davis was a force and nearly led his new squad through the Play-In Tournament as the 10th seed. He underwent offseason surgery to repair a detached retina but is expected to be healthy to start 2025-26. With Irving sidelined to start the year, Davis and 2025 No. 1 overall pick Cooper Flagg will have added offensive responsibility early on. Dallas also has a deep frontcourt, with Daniel Gafford, Dereck Lively, Dwight Powell and P.J. Washington, so Davis shouldn't have to exclusively play center, which he's been vocally opposed to in the past. The shift to power forward likely wouldn't be the best thing for his overall fantasy potential, as the farther away he gets from the basket, the more his key fantasy categories would drop (REBs, BLKs, FG%). Regardless, when he's consistently playing, Davis has always been a top-tier fantasy contributor. Read Past Outlooks

Undergoes eye surgery
Davis underwent a procedure Tuesday to repair a detached retina that he suffered during the 2024-25 regular season, Shams Charania of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
After being traded to the Mavericks in the blockbuster deal that sent Luka Doncic to the Lakers, Davis dealt with a few injuries, which limited him to just nine regular-season games and two postseason games with his new team. Along with the adductor injury he suffered in his first game with Dallas, the veteran big man also dealt with a knee injury late in the regular season and suffered a detached retina. However, Davis is expected to be ready for training camp following the procedure he underwent Tuesday. In the nine regular-season games he played with the Mavericks, the 31-year-old averaged 20 points, 10.1 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 2.2 blocks per game, shooting 46.1 percent from the floor and 23.3 percent from three-point range.

Last season was one of Davis' healthiest recently, with the big man's 76 appearances representing the first time he's crossed the 70-game threshold since 2017-18. He produced at an elite level, finishing on the All-NBA Second Team and the All-Defensive First Team behind 24.7 points, 12.6 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 2.3 blocks and 1.2 steals in 35.5 minutes. Even though Davis had his most productive season in half a decade, fantasy managers still have reason to be cautious regarding the 31-year-old's health. He's a first-round talent, but drafting him there still incurs risk. In terms of the team around AD, it will be much of the same. LeBron James is leading the way, with D'Angelo Russell, Austin Reaves and Rui Hachimura presumably filling out the rest of the starting five, though it's possible Jarred Vanderbilt gets a nominal starting spot for defensive purposes. Regardless, fantasy managers shouldn't expect any massive swings in per-game production from AD, who is one of the best two-way bigs in the game.
