Headed to Chicago
The Cavaliers traded Okoro to the Bulls in exchange for Lonzo Ball (wrist) on Saturday, Shams Charania of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Okoro will join the Bulls after spending the first five years of his career in Cleveland. The 24-year-old was selected by the Cavaliers with the No. 5 overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft but has seen a fairly steady decline in playing time since his rookie year. Okoro played in 55 regular-season games this past season, missing an extended period due to a right shoulder sprain. He finished the 2024-25 campaign averaging 6.1 points, 2.4 rebounds and 1.2 assists across 19.1 minutes per game.

Despite continuing to play meaningful minutes, Okoro has yet to put himself on the radar when it comes to standard fantasy leagues. Although his minutes were reduced last season, he still started basically the entire second half. He averaged 21.7 minutes per game, averaging 6.4 points to go with 2.5 rebounds and 0.7 steals. For a player whose value is based on his defensive upside, he is yet to average more than 0.9 steals across three seasons in the NBA. The Cavaliers appear as though they may have given up on the idea of Okoro being their answer at the small forward position, signing Max Strus from the Heat. Although Strus is not as impactful as Okoro on the defensive end, he is a far more reliable scoring threat. Given Okoro's minutes could be on the way down once again, managers can safely ignore him outside of very deep leagues.

Talked up by Karnisovas
Bulls president of basketball operations Arturas Karnisovas said he's excited to see what Okoro brings to the table defensively, Cody Westerlund of 670TheScore.com reports Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
"We have an identity in terms of offense," Karnisovas said. "We have to find our identity defensively. In order to do that, we got to start bringing in good defensive players. That was the idea behind acquiring Okoro." The Bulls seem to be losing patience with Patrick Williams, so there is a large path to minutes in Chicago for Okoro if he can showcase his defensive upside. In addition to his defensive abilities, Okoro is an improving three-point shooter -- he shot 37.1 percent during the 2024-25 regular season.
