Personal Bio/PreCareer Summary

Wesley was born March 16, 2003, in South Bend, Indiana. His father, Derrick Sr., was a two-time MVP for the Cardinals, finished his career as the school's third all-time leading scorer and was inducted into the Ball State Athletics Hall of Fame in 1998. Blake played for James Whitcomb Riley High School in South Bend, Indiana. He took a jump during his junior year when he averaged 26.0 points and 6.3 rebounds per game. In his senior season, Wesley averaged 27.1 points, 6.1 rebounds and 2.5 steals per game, leading Riley to a 19-7 record and the Class 4A sectional title. He was named to the Indiana All-Star team and ranked as the No. 82 prospect by ESPN.com. On Nov. 20, 2020, he committed to playing college basketball for Notre Dame, choosing the Fighting Irish over offers from Creighton, Kansas State, Louisville, Maryland, Purdue and Xavier. Wesley had an immediate impact during his freshman season at Notre Dame, averaging 14.4 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game. He shined during March Madness, where he helped Notre Dame put away Alabama in the first round of the NCAA Tournament with 18 points, which included a personal 6-0 run in the second half. His transition steal and break-away dunk would put the Irish up double digits for good late in the contest. He was nominated to the 2022 All-ACC Second Team. Eventually, this led him to be selected by the San Antonio Spurs with the 25th pick in the 2022 NBA Draft.

Contributes 13 points from bench
GPortland Trail Blazers
October 11, 2025
Wesley tallied 13 points (5-6 FG, 3-3 FT, 0-1 3Pt), two rebounds, an assist and a steal across 19 minutes during Friday's 124-123 preseason win over the Kings.
ANALYSIS
Wesley agreed to a one-year deal with Portland after a circuitous trip through the waiver wire. Waived by the Wizards, Wesley will attempt to jumpstart his pro career after failing to catch on with the Spurs during a three-year stint. Wesley is unlikely to make a fantasy impact with many established players above him on the depth chart.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2024
2022
Coming off an underwhelming rookie campaign, Wesley played even fewer minutes last season. He averaged 4.4 points and 2.7 assists in 14.4 minutes per game. Looking ahead to the 2024-25 season, Wesley could be in for yet another regression, especially with Chris Paul landing in San Antonio. The Spurs now have Paul, Tre Jones and Stephon Castle as point guard options, meaning Wesley could struggle to crack the nightly rotation. With his arrow pointed firmly in the wrong direction, Wesley can be safely ignored in just about every fantasy format, barring a slew of injuries in San Antonio.
One of two guards selected in the first round of the 2022 NBA Draft by the Spurs, Wesley pieced together a decent run over his five Summer League appearances, averaging 17.0 points, 4.0 assists, 3.6 rebounds and 1.6 steals over 30.6 minutes. However, shooting efficiency certainly didn't turn heads in a good way. Wesley connected on just 30.0 percent of his 18 field goal attempts per contest and 34.4 percent from deep, efficiencies that won't gain him much favor. He'll have to improve on that number if he's going to claim a regular role in the rotation as a rookie, though his 30.3 percent conversion from beyond the arc as a freshman at Notre Dame doesn't inspire a ton of confidence. He will contend with fellow draftee Malaki Branham and second-year guard Joshua Primo to see backcourt minutes behind Tre Jones and Devin Vassell.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Making strong impression
GPortland Trail Blazers
October 8, 2025
Wesley is making a strong case for a rotation spot at training camp, Joe Freeman of The Oregonian reported Monday.
ANALYSIS
"He's doing a good job," coach Chauncey Billups said of Wesley. "He really has been playing his butt off." Additionally, Toumani Camara piled on the praise. "He's very fast," Camara said. "I really like the way he plays. Defensively, he's a menace. Plays really hard, guards 94-feet like I do. And his intensity never stops. I think his level of energy is always at a high level. He tries to make the right play all the time, is a very good driver." With Scoot Henderson sidelined by a hamstring injury, Wesley suddenly finds himself in the mix for some minutes as a backup point guard.
