2025 Fantasy Outlook
After seeing 47 games as a rookie, Whitmore's second season in Houston was limited to just 51 regular-season appearances. He showcased plenty of per-minute upside, however, posting averages of 9.4 points, 3.0 rebounds, 1.0 assists, 0.6 steals and 1.3 three-pointers on 44.9 percent shooting from the field in 16.2 minutes per game. His inability to break through coach Ime Udoka's rotation kept Whitmore's fantasy appeal limited to very deep leagues. After an eventful summer that saw the Rockets acquire Kevin Durant, Whitmore was flipped to the Wizards in exchange for two second-round picks. Any time a young player goes from a contender to a rebuilding team, fantasy managers take notice. The Wizards dumped veteran Marcus Smart, and it's unlikely that CJ McCollum and Khris Middleton play massive roles at this point in their career, especially with how generous the Wizards were with their youngsters' workload in 2024-25. Whitmore is projected to come off the bench early on, but a path to considerable minutes will certainly be on the table if he performs. Due to his upside and intrigue on what happens to be a very weak roster, Whitmore is shaping up to be an interesting dart throw in late rounds or deeper formats. Read Past Outlooks

Whitmore (illness) is available for Saturday's game against the Hawks.
ANALYSIS
Whitmore is under the weather but will shake off his questionable tag Saturday. With Khris Middleton (knee), Corey Kispert (thumb), Tre Johnson (hip) and Bilal Coulibaly (oblique) all sidelined, Whitmore could see increased minutes against Atlanta. Over his last five outings, he's averaged 6.6 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.0 blocks in 15.8 minutes per game.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2024
2023
Whitmore slipped in the 2023 NBA Draft and was selected by the Rockets with the 20th overall pick. However, he still enjoyed a solid year after averaging 12.3 points, 3.8 rebounds and 0.7 assists per game despite averaging a mere 18.7 minutes per contest across 47 regular-season appearances (two starts). The potential is clearly there, and Whitmore has all the tools to become an impact scorer in The Association sooner than later, but he's not likely to make the jump in 2024-25. The Rockets are far more talented than in 2032-24. With the continued development of players such as Jalen Green and Jabari Smith, as well as Dillon Brooks and Fred VanVleet as established veterans, the best-case scenario for Whitmore would be to earn minutes off the bench -- and even then, he will have to compete for minutes with several other high-upside players such as Reed Sheppard, Amen Thompson and even possibly Tari Eason. Whitmore could be an interesting addition in dynasty formats, but for standard leagues, he should be left on waivers. However, his upside and progress make him a player worth keeping close tabs on, especially if he ends up having a bigger-than-expected role.

Keefe explains his DNP
Whitmore was a healthy scratch against the Wizards on Saturday, and coach Brian Keefe provided a troubling explanation following the game, Varun Shankar of The Washington Post reports.
ANALYSIS
"We have certain standards that we have for our team. He has to live up to those on the better," Keefe said. "And he'll have a chance here, but that's going to be up to him when that time comes." Given the number of injuries in Washington, it's quite concerning that Whitmore hasn't been able to make the most of his opportunities. It remains to be seen if Whitmore can work his way out of this latest setback.
