Double-doubles in SL win
Bassey finished with 22 points (8-12 FG, 6-6 FT), 13 rebounds, one assist, two steals and three blocks across 22 minutes during Sunday's 94-81 Summer League win against the Knicks.
ANALYSIS
Bassey put on a show Sunday in the Las Vegas Summer League, as he was getting it done on both ends of the floor. The Western Kentucky product has no shortage of experience, having played for the 76ers and Spurs over the last four years, but he's now in limbo as he tries to prove his worth and secure another deal to remain in the league for the 2025-26 campaign.

2021
Bassey tore his left ACL in December of 2023 and is expected to miss the start of 2024-25. In 19 regular-season appearances last season, the 2021 second-round pick served as the primary backup center behind Zach Collins, a smaller role than his first season in San Antonio when the Spurs didn't have Victor Wembanyama roaming the paint. Bassey and Sandro Mamukelashvili signed similar one-year deals this offseason and figure to compete for backup minutes. However, taking the injury out of the equation, Bassey's role is murkier than last season. Wembanyama's move to center will have Collins playing off the bench, leaving Bassey and Mamukelashvili to compete for third-string minutes. Bassey's injury concerns, competition and limited fantasy upside - he's essentially a traditional big man with no outside shot - make him undraftable in standard leagues. However, his situation could change as the season progresses, so he's worth keeping an eye on when he's finally cleared to play.

Looking to make impact
Bassey, who was a late addition to Boston's Summer League roster, is looking to make an impact with his new team, Brian Robb of MassLive reports.
ANALYSIS
"Great effort, rebounding, blocking shots, rim protection," Bassey said of what he can bring to the table. "I bring great defense to the team. I just play my role. I know what a team needs from me and I know what they want from me and I do it every night." The Celtics have a clear need in the frontcourt with Kristaps Porzingis, Luke Kornet and Al Horford out of the picture, and Robb notes that the Celtics expressed interest in Bassey in the past. Bassey has struggled to stay healthy, but he showed plenty of promise in his previous stint with San Antonio. The big man holds career regular-season averages of 4.3 points, 4.3 rebounds and 0.9 blocks in just 10.4 minutes per contest.
