Cut loose by Houston
The Rockets waived Zeller on Sunday, Shams Charania of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Zeller was let go by Houston to make room on the 15-man roster for two-way player Nate Williams, who will be upgraded to a standard four-year deal. An 11-year veteran, Zeller has yet to play this season after he didn't report to the Hawks during training camp before he was traded to the Rockets ahead of the Feb. 6 deadline. Once he clears waivers, Zeller will be eligible to sign with any team.

Zeller's injury woes continued last year, and he hasn't appeared in 60 games in a season since 2016-17. His fantasy value also declined for a second straight season as the Hornets explored other options at center, namely P.J. Washington. In 20.9 minutes per game, Zeller averaged 9.4 points, 6.8 rebounds and 1.8 assists. He's almost purely a screen-and-roll center who can throw down some impressive dunks when given a runway, though there's been a half-hearted attempt to turn him into a stretch five, with the center going 28-for-125 (22.4 percent) across the past three seasons. This season, Zeller is experiencing his first change of scenery as a pro, as he signed a one-year deal with the Trail Blazers. There, he'll back up starting center Jusuf Nurkic, who's had injury issues of his own lately. Zeller should continue seeing roughly 20 minutes per game. He's completely avoidable in standard leagues, but he makes for an intriguing option in deep leagues or best ball formats as someone to potentially pair with Nurkic in a draft in case the starter gets hurt. Zeller would presumably be worth a roster spot in fantasy if he gets an extended stretch of starts, as he's averaged 12.2 points on 56.4 FG%, 8.5 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.2 blocks in games where he's seen minutes in the 30s.

Latest Fantasy Rumors

Might be option for Pacers
Zeller might be a target for Indiana when he becomes eligible to be traded December 15, Dustin Dopirak of The Indianapolis Star reports.
ANALYSIS
Players who signed as free agents this past offseason aren't eligible to be dealt until the 15th, but the Pacers have a big hole at backup center behind Myles Turner and could be among the first teams to trade for a veteran big when the window opens. Zeller signed a three-year, $11 million deal with the Pelicans in July as part of a sign-and-trade deal that sent Dejounte Murray to New Orleans, but the 32-year-old hasn't played a minute this season for Atlanta and was included in the Murray trade only for salary-matching purposes. As a result, he probably wouldn't be able to provide immediate help for the Pacers' second unit, given that he would need time to get his conditioning up to NBA levels.
