Matkovic entered last season with some sleeper buzz, but he was unable to capitalize. He struggled to secure a consistent role for much of the year and only began receiving meaningful minutes late in the campaign as injuries depleted the roster. Over his final 32 appearances, he averaged 9.8 points, 5.9 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.1 blocks in 22.3 minutes per game. While his per-minute production and defensive potential are encouraging, his path to playing time remains unclear given the team's current frontcourt depth, which includes Yves Missi, Zion Williamson, Herbert Jones and the addition of Kevon Looney. Signed two-year, $3.11 million contract with the Pelicans in July of 2024. Contract includes $2.3 million team option for 2026-27.

ANALYSIS
For the first time since Dec. 31, Matkovic failed to see any run off the bench, ending a streak of 27 consecutive appearances during which he shot 62.2 percent from the field and averaged 6.0 points, 3.6 rebounds, 1.1 blocks and 0.9 assists in 15.9 minutes per game. Matkovic's absence from the rotation was a byproduct of interim head coach James Borrego's decision to restructure the starting lineup. Borrego went with a smaller starting five featuring Zion Williamson at center, resulting in DeAndre Jordan moving to the bench and serving as one of the Pelicans' backup big men along with Derik Queen and Yves Missi.
