Mouhamed Gueye

Mouhamed Gueye was raised in Dakar, Senegal, prior to moving to California at age 16 and attending Prolific Prep. During his time at Washington State, Gueye was named to the 2022 Pac-12 All-Freshman team and First Team All-Pac 12 this season. Gueye nearly doubled his stats in his sophomore campaign, jumping from 7.4 points, 5.2 rebounds and 0.5 assists to 14.3 points, 8.4 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game. He recorded 15 double-doubles this season, including four games with 15-plus rebounds. He also supplied eight games with at least 20 points. Gueye is an offensively-oriented center with admirable activity defensively. He's exceptionally fluid for his size. Standing 6-foot-11 in shoes with a wingspan exceeding 7-foot-3, Gueye has a natural existence as a shot alterer. He also showed improvement as a rebounder and looked much more comfortable with the ball in his hands as a sophomore. While those growth points help plug holes in Gueye's game, he also stagnated as a three-point shooter, leveling out at 27.5 percent on 1.2 attempts per game. With continued shooting growth, Naz Reid is a potential offensive comparison. Gueye shot 37.8 percent on 82 midrange field goal attempts, which ranks above the collegiate average for 2022-23. Defensively, Gueye profiles similarly to Jaxson Hayes, who brought length and energy to New Orleans. Gueye is a project, but he's a physical anomaly and seems destined for a Summer League audition at minimum.
