Simpson officially declared for the 2026 NFL Draft on Tuesday, Colin Gay of The Tuscaloosa News reports.
ANALYSIS
After serving as a depth quarterback for Alabama during his first three seasons in Tuscaloosa, Simpson stepped into a full-time starting role as a redshirt junior in 2025. He established himself as one of the best quarterbacks in the SEC, finishing the season with a 64.5 percent completion rate while throwing for 3,567 yards and a 28:5 TD:INT. Indiana's Fernando Mendoza profiles as the clear top quarterback in the draft class, but Simpson could emerge as the No. 2 option in the position group and may have a shot at coming off the board in the middle to back end of the first round.

Simpson said Friday at the NFL Combine that he wants to show talent evaluators he's a "franchise quarterback," Jeff Legwold of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The Alabama product is rated by ESPN's Mel Kiper as the No. 2 quarterback behind Indiana's Fernando Mendoza, who's widely expected to be selected No. 1 overall by the Las Vegas Raiders. While Simpson is considered in some circles as a fairly distant second, he's conveyed his confidence during interviews in Indianapolis and noted Friday he felt the Crimson Tide locker room and program as a whole served as excellent preparation for the NFL.
