Catches fire at LIV Golf Virginia
June 8, 2025
Pieters fired an eight-under 63 in the final round at LIV Golf Virginia to finish tied for fourth.
ANALYSIS
Pieters was five-under through the first two rounds, but he surged up the leaderboard on Championship Sunday. He finished the round with seven birdies, one bogey and an eagle on the par-5 14th, and his score was the second best of the tournament behind Ben Campbell and Lee Westwood (nine-under 62). Pieters has finished T4 in back-to-back LIV Golf tournaments and sits 16th in the individual season standings with 43.91 points. He'll look to carry his momentum into LIV Golf Dallas starting June 27.

Pieters would need to go through qualifying to get into either Open.
Pieters is an interesting case, because he plays the bulk of his tournament schedule in Europe but occasionally mixes in a PGA Tour entry. He played in seven PGA events this past season with rather promising results: four made cuts, T27 at the U.S. Open, over $300k in earnings. The 30-year-old Belgian has no shortage of talent and distance, but his attitude can sometimes be his own worst enemy. Provided he can continue maturing and growing in this area, he could easily continue dominating European fields and make some serious noise when he comes stateside.
Pieters backed up his impressive performance at the 2016 Ryder Cup with a big year last season on both sides of the Atlantic. A T2 at the Genesis Open, fourth-place finishes at the Masters and WGC-Bridgestone Invitational and a T5 at WGC-Mexico Championship earned him a 2017-18 PGA Tour card as he led non-members with 727 FedEx Cup points, the equivalent to 52nd on the points list. Just how much Pieters plays stateside is uncertain, though. He said he is committed to the European Tour in hopes of earning a place on the 2018 European Ryder Cup team.
