2026 Fantasy Outlook

Hovland had a tough start to the year in 2025, but then virtually out of nowhere went to the Valspar Championship and had one of the best putting weeks of his career en route to victory. It sparked a much better looking second half of the year in which he looked like one of the best ball strikers on the PGA Tour again. Hovland would finish the season second to only Scottie Scheffler in SG: Approach, gaining nearly a full shot per round. The short game remained a major issue, but thankfully it wasn't as horrid as it was in 2024 when he ranked 180th in SG: Around-the-Green. Hovland is a constant tinkerer, and that's big reason as to why he's fallen off a bit after his FedExCup winning season in 2023. The good news is that the swing seems to be in a good place, but the short game and putting need to be better if he is to reclaim his spot amongst golf's elite. Read Past Outlooks

ANALYSIS
Hovland shot even par in three of four rounds at Bay Hill, with his five-under 67 score Saturday being his best of the tournament. He gained nearly four strokes with his putter, and while he ranked T16 in the field in driving accuracy, he also finished near the bottom of the field in SG: Off-the-Tee (41st). It was Hovland's second top-15 finish of the season, and he's made the cut in all four of his Tour outings in 2026. He's in the field for THE PLAYERS Championship next week, where he finished T9-T3 in 2022 and 2023 before going T62 in 2024 and missing the cut last year.

After winning three times in 2023 including the FedExCup, expectations were sky high for Hovland going into 2024. He simply struggled to live up to them collecting only two top-10 finishes, a third at the PGA Championship and a T2 at the FedEx St. Jude Championship. Hovland tried to implement some new swing changes going into 2024 and then reverted back to his old coach later in the year. The big question with Hovland is his health, however. Normally he would play some events on the DP World Tour after the TOUR Championship, but was ruled out for the remainder of the year with an undisclosed injury. The talent is just too high here not to have a better year in 2025, but the injury and constant tinkering in his game does raise questions about his ceiling next season.

Hovland has always been one of the most consistent players on Tour thanks to his world-class ball-striking. He reached a new level in 2022-23 thanks to big improvements in the short-game department. Hovland doubled his PGA Tour win total to six with victories at the Memorial Tournament, followed by wins at both the BMW Championship and the TOUR Championship to close the season. The 26-year-old has also not missed a cut on the PGA Tour since July of 2022. The next thing on Hovland's radar is a major championship and he has contended at quite a few of them already across his short career. Hovland has No. 1 overall upside, but also an extremely high floor that makes him a great early selection in any fantasy format.

Hovland has been a top-five ball-striker in the world since he started on Tour three years ago. The one thing that will continue to stand out until changes are made is his short game. It was really bad this past season, as he lost over 0.65 strokes per round, which ranked 191st on the PGA Tour. Hovland's putter has gone from a weakness to a stregnth now, so if he can find a way to just not be terrible around the greens then his results will be very scary. Hovland has won in all three seasons and has only missed seven cuts in that timespan. His T4 finish at the Open Championship after fading on Sunday is his only top-10 finish in a major to this point, however. Hovland's ball-striking makes his floor very high, but his ceiling is still a question until he can figure out the short game.

There's never been a shortage of hype surrounding Hovland and while he's been a solid player on the PGA Tour since day one, entering his second full season on tour, he'd yet to really show what he had. Sure, he won the Puerto Rico Open as a rookie, but he didn't splash like many expected ... until 2020-21. Hovland not only picked up another win in year-two, but he added two runner-ups and two 3rd-place finishes on his way to more than $5 million. The jump to the $5 million club was quick, after all, the 2020-21 season was just his second on the PGA Tour and although the bar was set high, Hovland has the game to take it even higher. Considering his number for this season, Hovland can't be considered a great salary cap play, but he's definitely in the "good" camp.

Many young players on the PGA Tour struggle with consistency, but that's never been the issue for Hovland. Hovland has finished inside the top 25 in half of his 24 starts as a professional on the PGA Tour. He also picked-up his first win on the PGA Tour this past season and while that win came against a weaker field, the "real" wins are coming. Hovland's cap number is not discounted much from the shortened season, but he's still a bargain at his current price.

Hovland doesn't need much of an introduction after a T12 at the U.S. Open in June preceded four consecutive finishes of T16 or better to end the regular season, culminating with a solo-fourth at the Wyndham Championship. The Oklahoma State product failed to record a win like his fellow Class of '19 compadres, Matthew Wolff and Collin Morikawa, but expect Hovland to land in the winner's circle soon enough. He gained at least 8.4 strokes from tee to green throughout his last three starts on the PGA Tour before securing his card with results of T11-T2 at the Korn Ferry Tour Finals.
