NHL Betting Picks: Blues vs Capitals & Canucks vs Blackhawks
St. Louis Blues
at Washington Capitals
The Blues (4-7-2) and Capitals (6-5-1) meet at Capital One Arena on Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m. ET in the nationally-televised game, and this is an interesting game.
If you've never visited Capital One Arena, I wouldn't say it is the best, but it is probably Top 10 for me. I've caught hockey and college basketball games there (Hoya Saxa!), and it's always been fine. You pop right up off the Metro, head in, and there are a couple of sportsbooks inside the arena; there is a decent choice of food, beverages, etc. The only complaint is that the walkways are a bit narrow, but it's also a metropolitan arena, and that's to be expected.
The Blues picked up a 3-2 win as short 'dogs (+105) at home on Monday night, halting a 0-5-2 skid dating back to Oct. 21. The Under has cashed in consecutive games for just the second time all season, too. Jordan Binnington fell behind 2-0, but he made 24 saves on 26 shots, and Dalibor Dvorsky scored a power-play goal, Robert Thomas had an even-strength goal to even the score and Pius Suter scored the winner with just 83 seconds left in regulation.
The Capitals fired out of the chute to start the season, going 6-2-0 in the first eight games through Oct. 24, but they're 0-3-1 in the past four games since, getting outscored 15-5, with one or no goals in three of those outings.
Last time out, the Caps suffered a 4-3 shootout loss on the road in Buffalo, as Charlie Lindgren could not stop the Sabres. The Over (6.5) cashed, snapping a 3-1-1 run in the previous five games. Dylan Strome, Aliaksei Protas and Sonny Milano scored even-strength goals.
We have two ice-cold teams facing each other, but somebody is going to get a much-needed win. Washington has dropped three of the past four at home, while St. Louis has dropped three in a row on the road, all against Eastern Conference teams. Let's side with the Capitals, but don't get carried away, and we'll lean low on the total.

Chicago Blackhawks
at Vancouver Canucks
The Blackhawks (5-5-3) and the Canucks (7-7-0) meet at 10 p.m. ET on ESPN+ at Rogers Arena.
Vancouver has won 11 consecutive meetings in this series dating back to Nov. 21, 2021, a 1-0 victory for the Blackhawks in B.C., as Marc-Andre Fleury helped Chicago to a victory over Thatcher Demko. In the 11-game span, Vancouver has outscored Chicago 44-18 in the winning streak.
After a red-hot start, the Blackhawks have powered down a little bit, going 0-2-1 in the past three outings, getting outscored 12-6, including a 3-1 loss in Seattle. This is the fourth stop on a six-game road trip, and Chicago is still looking for its first win in regulation on the journey. The Under has cashed in the past two games, and 6-2 in the past eight outings, and 8-3 in the past 11 contests.
These teams met Oct. 17 in Chicago, with the Canucks coming away with a 3-2 victory in a shootout. Kevin Lankinen stopped 31 of the 33 shots he faced, edging out Spencer Knight, who had 30 saves on 32 shots. Vancouver is 3-2-0 in the past five outings, and each of the victories are either in overtime (twice) or a shootout. The Over is 5-1 in the past six games, too, including each of the past three outings.
Knight (4-3-2, 2.62 GAA, .913 save percentage) and Demko (5-4-0, 2.57 GAA, .911 save percentage) are each expected to start between the pipes.
Based on the series trends, heavily in favor of the Canucks, and it's surprising that they're not terribly priced out of line. While the Under is 3-1 in the past four meetings in Vancouver, we'll side with the Over based on Vancouver's trends lately, especially if you can get Over 5.5 at several of the books.
