Logan Thompson

Logan Thompson

28-Year-Old GoalieG
Washington Capitals
2024 Fantasy Outlook
Thompson arrived in Washington over the summer after requesting a trade out of Vegas. He is seeking more playing time after splitting starts with Adin Hill in 2023-24. However, the 27-year-old Thompson will compete with last season's breakout darling, Charlie Lindgren, to be the top dog with the Capitals. Thompson has a chance to earn the gig. He has a record of 56-32-11 with four shutouts, a 2.67 GAA and a .912 save percentage in 103 career NHL appearances. He's two inches taller and 25 pounds heavier than Lindren and almost four years younger. Thompson and Lindgren will likely share starts until one of them gets hot. That works in daily formats, but it can be difficult for fantasy managers in weekly leagues. Read Past Outlooks

Can't deliver miracle for team
GWashington Capitals

Thompson made 18 saves in a 3-1 loss to the Hurricanes in Game 5 on Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Thompson was brilliant early when he made a lunging save with 36 seconds left in the first to preserve the tie, but he should've stopped the eventual game winner. Andrei Svechnikov somehow put the puck in from below the right circle with 1:59 remaining. "It's my job to find the lane and get my eyes on it, and he sifted it through. It was a terrible goal to give up to end a season, and I've got to wear that," said Thompson after the game, per Tom Gulitti of NHL.com. "I'm an adult. That's on me, and I can be better." Thompson finished the postseason with a 5-5 record, 2.41 GAA and .917 save percentage in 10 starts.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2023
2022
The first half of 2022-23 couldn't have gone much better for Thompson, as he was named an All-Star and looked like a finalist for the Calder Trophy before an injury-plagued second half of the campaign. He finished the year with a 21-13-3 record, a 2.65 GAA and a .915 save percentage -- perfectly fine numbers to be the Golden Knights' No. 1 goalie in 2023-24 if it weren't for Adin Hill leading Vegas to a Stanley Cup title in Thompson's absence. With Robin Lehner still a big question mark while recovering from hip surgery, Vegas' goaltending is in good hands between Thompson and Hill. Thompson may have to settle for a tandem situation, but he should still get into at least 30 games, making him a viable depth goalie in fantasy.
Thompson had appeared in just one NHL contest prior to last season, but Vegas got crushed by injuries in 2021-22, resulting in the former undrafted free agent seeing action in 19 top-level games and finishing with a 10-5-3 record, a 2.68 GAA and a .914 save percentage. It was commendable work by Thompson considering the circumstances, and the Golden Knights may very well need more of it this year. It was announced in August that Robin Lehner would undergo hip surgery and miss the entire 2022-23 season. Vegas' other goaltender, Laurent Broissoit (undisclosed), is also injured and won't be ready for Opening Night. It's Thompson's net to lose at this point. Remember him on draft day.

Thompson might start at home against Carolina for Game 5 on Thursday, per Sammi Silber of The Hockey News.
ANALYSIS
Thompson will attempt to rebound after allowing four goals in each of the Capitals' past two games. Those losses have brought Washington down to 3-1 in its second-round series. Despite Thompson's recent struggles, he's been effective overall in the 2025 playoffs, posting a 2.45 GAA and a .918 save percentage across nine outings.
