2025 Fantasy Outlook
Malenstyn is a fourth-line forward who plays with a physical edge. The 27-year-old finished 2024-25 with four goals, 10 points, 29 PIM, 67 shots, 191 hits and 63 blocks across 76 outings with Buffalo. As long as Malenstyn plays regularly again this campaign, he should get over 175 hits again, and it wouldn’t be shocking if he ends up reaching 200. Just don’t expect him to help you too much offensively. He did record 21 points with Washington in 2023-24, but Malenstyn had a bigger role with the Capitals -- he averaged 14:15 of ice time per game that campaign -- than he’s expected to receive in Buffalo. Pots goal Tuesday
Malenstyn scored a goal on two shots, added five PIM and doled out five hits in Tuesday's 6-3 win over the Sharks.
ANALYSIS
Malenstyn snapped a five-game point drought with the tally. He also fought for the second game in a row. The 28-year-old plays exclusively on the fourth line, offering plenty of physicality for the Sabres in that role. He has six goals, 10 points, 56 shots on net, 225 hits, 64 blocked shots and 34 PIM through 64 appearances.

2024 Fantasy Outlook
Prior to the 2024 NHL Entry Draft, Malenstyn was shipped off to Buffalo in exchange for a second-round pick, later signing a two-year, $2.7 million deal with his new club during the offseason. While the hard-working forward set personal bests across the board with 81 games played, six goals, 15 assists and 98 shots on net, he shouldn't be expected to offer much fantasy value given his limited offensive upside. Still, in formats that value hits and blocked shots, the 26-year-old natural center could offer increased value considering he dished out 241 hits while making 93 blocks last year. Even in those competitions, Malenstyn's fantasy utility is limited considering he'll fill a bottom-six role for Buffalo and shouldn't see power-play ice time.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Headed for injured reserve?
Malenstyn, who is dealing with an undisclosed issue, might be placed on injured reserve ahead of Monday's matchup with Montreal, per Rachel Lenzi of The Buffalo News.
ANALYSIS
Malenstyn is not on IR yet per the official NHL media site but the pre-game notes indicate that he is. As such, fantasy managers will have to wait to hear from head coach Lindy Ruff to determine the British Columbia native's status. At a minimum, it seems unlikely Malenstyn will be in the lineup versus the Canadiens on Monday after missing the game-day skate.
