2025 Fantasy Outlook
While his ratios weren't great, coming in at a 2.73 GAA and a .894 save percentage, Lindgren redeemed some fantasy value with a 20-14-3 record over 39 appearances. The netminder earned a three-year contract extension with his play, and while the job security is a good thing, the Capitals also committed to Logan Thompson for five years. This leaves Lindgren in a tandem role, and while he may push for roughly half of the playing time, he's not quite as talented as his teammate. Lindgren should get enough starts to be worth rostering in most fantasy formats, at least as a low-end No. 2 or No. 3 goalie. He's played better before as well, but it'll be tough to ask much more of him after how good the Capitals were overall in 2024-25. Read Past Outlooks

Starting against Boston
Lindgren will defend the home crease during Thursday's preseason game against the Bruins, Sammi Silber of The Hockey News reports.
ANALYSIS
Lindgren will make his second start of the preseason during Thursday's matchup. He also started in Sunday's exhibition matchup against New Jersey and turned aside 20 of 22 shots in the shootout victory. Once the regular season gets underway, Lindgren will likely enter a timeshare with Logan Thompson for goaltending duties.

Lindgren had a "pinch-me, I'm dreaming" season in 2023-24 - he even got a few Vezina and Hart votes on the back of a 26-16-7 record, 2.67 GAA and .911 save percentage. He's the reason the Caps got to the postseason, but how many NHLers have their breakout season in their age-30 season? Fantasy managers want Lindgren to be real, and so do the Capitals, yet the team brought in Logan Thompson as a battery mate, and the two could end up in a straight platoon. Best-case scenario, Lindgren proves last year was real, and he starts 50 games. Worst case, he and Thompson end up in a split where the hot hand starts until he cools. Daily fantasy formats can absorb that and make it work. Weekly formats, not so much.

Latest Fantasy Rumors

Could land extension
Lindgren and the Capitals are discussing a contract extension with an AAV around $3.5-4 million, Kevin Weekes of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
The Capitals signed Logan Thompson to a six-year, $35.1 million deal Monday. Lindgren hasn't played as well, but it looks like the team is comfortable with having both of their current goaltenders as the duo for years to come. It would lead to a somewhat expensive crease, but that's less of a concern with the cap expected to rise for 2025-26 and beyond.
