Dan Vladar

28-Year-Old GoalieG
Philadelphia Flyers
2025 Fantasy Outlook
Samuel Ersson and Ivan Fedotov were Philadelphia’s No. 1 and No. 2 options, respectively, in goal during 2024-25. They’re still under contract, so where does that leave Vladar, who signed a two-year contract with the Flyers over the summer? Vladar was okay, but not great as the backup with Calgary in 2024-25, posting a 12-11-6 record with a 2.80 GAA and a .898 save percentage in 30 outings. However, Ersson and Fedotov are coming off rough campaigns, and if you compare them in terms of goals saved above expected last season, Vladar is the only one with a positive number, even if it is a modest 0.9. This should be seen as an open competition, and while Vladar has a solid chance of entering the campaign at the top of the depth charts, his position will likely be far from secure, so he’s not a safe option for starts. Takes tough loss to Sens
GPhiladelphia Flyers
October 24, 2025
Vladar stopped 31 shots in Thursday's 2-1 loss to the Senators.
ANALYSIS
Making his third straight start, Vladar delivered another strong effort in the Philly crease, but the Flyers' offense couldn't solve Linus Ullmark after Tyson Foerster scored on Philadelphia's first shot of the night. Vladar appears to have moved ahead of Samuel Ersson for the No. 1 job, at least for now, and Vladar's earned the assignment by allowing two goals or fewer in each of his first five outings with Philadelphia, en route to a 3-2-0 record, 1.81 GAA and .932 save percentage.

Vladar spent the summer rehabbing hip surgery, which was timed so he could be ready to start 2024-25. Look past his 8-9-2 record from last season and his 3.62 GAA, .882 save percentage and -10.76 GSAx (goals saved above expected), too. Vladar should start the season as the Flames 1A and will mentor young phenom Dustin Wolf as they platoon behind a rebuilding squad. Expectations will be low, but he could deliver league-average totals in a 40-start season.
Vladar had stretches as the Flames' starter in 2022-23, but he wasn't able to take the job away from Jacob Markstrom altogether. In the end, their ratios ended up about the same, with Vladar posting a 2.91 GAA and an .892 save percentage while going 14-6-5 in 27 appearances. The 25-year-old is in a tricky position -- he's shown enough to stay in the NHL, but his contract would be easier for many teams to acquire rather than pursuing Markstrom. The Flames may want Dustin Wolf to get NHL minutes this year, so Vladar's no lock to immediately step into the starting role if Markstrom gets hurt, assuming the team doesn't make a significant trade. Until more playing-time clarity emerges, Vladar's fantasy value is likely limited to deep formats.
Serving as the backup to workhorse starter and Vezina finalist Jacob Markstrom, Vladar appeared in 23 games for Calgary a season ago. His 13-6-2 record, 2.75 GAA and .906 save percentage were all perfectly reasonable marks for a guy who entered the year with all of five NHL games under his belt. The Flames would likely have to make a trade if Markstrom was forced to miss a significant amount of time, but Vladar proved to be a perfectly capable backup for the club, a role he will reprise in 2022-23. Vladar will be a restricted free agent with arbitration rights next summer.
The emergence of Jeremy Swayman as a high-level prospect allowed the Bruins to ship Vladar to Calgary this past July in exchange for a third-round pick. It's an odd trade considering Vladar is still just 24 years old, but Boston is clearly comfortable with its organizational depth in net. Swayman spent the majority of last year in the AHL where he played well (2.19 GAA, .923 save percentage). Vladar wasn't as successful (3.40 GAA, .886 save percentage) in a brief five-game run with the Bruins. Vladar is the current leader in the Calgary clubhouse to serve as Jacob Markstrom's backup this season, but his fantasy upside remains extremely limited. The Flames would almost certainly bring in help from the outside to assist Vladar if Markstrom suffered any sort of serious injury.
