Devon Levi

23-Year-Old GoalieG
Buffalo Sabres
2025 Fantasy Outlook
Levi didn't do anything to help his cause in limited NHL action in 2024-25, going 2-7-0 with a 4.12 GAA and a .872 save percentage over nine appearances. He was much better with AHL Rochester, going 25-13-4 with a 2.20 GAA and a .919 save percentage over 42 regular-season games. Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen took a big step back at the NHL level, so there could be a fairly open competition for playing time in training camp. Levi is still just 23 years old, so he's young enough to have a breakthrough that allows him to stay in the NHL for good. He'll already be on dynasty rosters, but redraft managers should consider him a late-round option with upside in drafts this fall. Read Past Outlooks
Signed a two-year, $1.625 million contract with the Sabres in July of 2025.
Snags two-year deal
GBuffalo Sabres
July 31, 2025
Levi agreed to terms on a two-year, $1.625 million contract with Buffalo on Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Levi saw action in just nine NHL games last year in which he posted a sub-optimal 2-7-0 record, 4.12 GAA and .872 save percentage. With the team bringing in Alex Lyon in free agency, the 23-year-old Levi may face an uphill battle to secure the No. 2 spot in the crease. Given his age, Levi looks like he could benefit from another campaign as the starter with AHL Rochester.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2024
2023
Levi split time between Buffalo and AHL Rochester last season. Expectations of instant NHL stardom were simply too much, but he thrived in the minors once he went down in January. Levi posted a 16-6-4 record and 2.42 GAA in 26 games with the Amerks, and started to look every bit the star people believed he'd be. His 2024-25 seems set in the AHL after the Sabres inked Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen to a five-year deal in late July. Honestly, that's good for Levi and the Sabres, too, at least for a couple of seasons. The young netminder can grow his game and then move into the backup role in 2025-26.
Although Levi wasn't selected until the No. 212 overall pick in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft, at this point his potential is clear. He was a phenomenal netminder with Northeastern University, posting a 2.24 GAA and a .933 save percentage in 34 NCAA games as a junior last year. He also got a taste of the NHL with Buffalo, recording a 5-2-0 record, 2.94 GAA and .905 save percentage in seven starts. While those numbers with the Sabres don't look great, he didn't get much help defensively, which is highlighted by him finishing the campaign with 3.1 goals saved above expected. Unfortunately, Buffalo might not be able to help him much more defensively this season. The 21-year-old goaltender might also go through some growing pains, which further makes him a risk. Still, he's positioned to start the campaign as Buffalo's starting goaltender and that, combined with his sky-high potential, makes him an interesting fantasy option.

Embracing competition in camp
GBuffalo Sabres
September 19, 2025
Levi, who has been skating with the non-NHL group early in training camp, is not bothered by the competition from Alexandar Georgiev and Alex Lyon, Matthew Fairburn of The Athletic reports Friday.
ANALYSIS
"I want the challenge," Levi said. "This is all you can ask for. It's great to be able to find a way through adversity. It makes me excited. I'm excited to come to the rink and prove to myself and to everyone what I'm capable of." While his usage early in camp suggests Levi will begin 2025-26 in the AHL, it's always possible he plays his way onto the Opening Night roster during the preseason. It'll be tough to hold an NHL job as well, as Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen will eventually be healthy from his lower-body injury and will be hungry to take back the starting role immediately. Levi remains a strong option for fantasy managers in dynasty, but his redraft value for this year isn't particularly high if he's stuck in the minors again.
