2025 Fantasy Outlook
Kane didn't play during the 2024-25 regular season because of hip and knee injuries, but he was able to participate in the bulk of Edmonton's playoff run, finishing with six goals, 12 points, 44 PIM and 95 hits in 21 playoff appearances. Although he's a solid middle-six option, Edmonton wanted to shed salary, so Kane and his $5.125 million cap hit were shipped to Vancouver over the summer. The 34-year-old has proven that he's capable of recording over 20 goals, 40 points, 50 PIM and 125 hits in a season as long as he can stay relatively healthy, but health isn't a certainty given his age and injury history. While the risk here is unquestionable, there is a world where Kane, who will now be playing for his hometown team, has a strong campaign, making him worth the gamble if the price to get him is low. Traded to hometown team
Kane was dealt from Edmonton to Vancouver on Wednesday in exchange for a fourth-round pick, according to Pierre LeBrun of TSN.
ANALYSIS
Kane was born in Vancouver and spent his WHL days with the Vancouver Giants, so this trade will allow him to play for his hometown team. He missed the 2024-25 regular season because of hip and knee injuries, but he recorded six goals, 12 points, 44 PIM and 95 hits in 21 playoff appearances with Edmonton in 2025. When healthy, Kane can be a helpful forward to slot into a middle-six role thanks to his blend of scoring and physicality. He recorded at least 20 goals in eight of nine regular seasons from 2015-16 through 2023-24 and also surpassed the 100-hit mark on eight occasions over that stretch. Edmonton isn't retaining any salary, so Vancouver will be responsible for his full $5.125 million cap hit. The 33-year-old can become an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2026.

Kane had 24 goals, 44 points, 85 PIM and 250 hits in 77 regular-season contests, which is pretty typical for him. It was the third time in four years that he finished with 20-25 goals, and his 44 points was his sixth-best total over his 15 campaigns. The one stat that stuck out for Kane was his hit total, which was by far the highest in his career -- he had never even reached the 200-hit mark before 2023-24. It was unclear if the 33-year-old winger has a top-six spot with the Oilers this season after they inked Jeff Skinner and Viktor Arvidsson over the summer even before Kane underwent surgery to address multiple hip/groin issues. The veteran won't play until January at the earliest, which makes him more of a potential waiver wire pick-up than a draft-day stash.

Heading to Vancouver?
Edmonton is working on a trade that would move Kane to Vancouver, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reports Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Kane missed the entire 2024-25 regular season because of hip and knee injuries, but he did record six goals, 12 points, 44 PIM and 95 hits across 21 playoff outings in 2025. His blend of skill and grit makes him a useful middle-six forward, but the Oilers presumably want to shed his $5.125 million cap hit. He can become an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2026.
