Jackson LaCombe

Jackson LaCombe

25-Year-Old DefensemanD
Anaheim Ducks
2025 Fantasy Outlook
LaCombe took a massive stride in his second full NHL season, scoring 14 goals on a 10.4 shooting percentage and dishing out 29 assists in 75 games. His 43 points are up from just 17 in the 2023-24 season, and his 14 goals were tied for the 11th-most in the NHL among defensemen. The 24-year-old finished the season as the Ducks' number one defenseman and quarterbacked the team’s second power-play unit, and his play suggests that he will be given the same opportunity to start the 2025-26 season under new head coach Joel Quenneville. It might be tough for him to unseat fellow young blueliner Olen Zellweger on Anaheim’s top unit, perhaps limiting the potential for too much increased production, but given the fact he’ll likely get more than 20 minutes of ice time per game, LaCombe could be able to build on his breakout campaign. Collects two points in shootout win
DAnaheim Ducks
March 6, 2026
LaCombe scored a power-play goal on two shots and added an assist in Friday's 6-5 shootout win over the Canadiens.
ANALYSIS
LaCombe had gone 27 games without a goal prior to his second-period tally Friday. Despite the lack of goals, he had 10 assists over his prior 11 contests to maintain a steady presence on offense in addition to his strong defense. The 25-year-old blueliner is up to seven goals, 36 assists, 14 power-play points, 124 shots on net, 106 blocked shots, 55 hits and an even plus-minus rating over 62 appearances. LaCombe is likely to remain the Ducks' top overall blueliner, but he may lose some power-play minutes to John Carlson (lower body), who was traded from the Capitals prior to Friday's deadline.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2024
2023
As a 22-year-old rookie last season, LaCombe recorded two goals, 15 assists and 55 shots on goal in 71 games for the Ducks while averaging 19:23 of ice time. Even with his new two-year, $1.85 million contract in hand, the strong-skating defenseman is far from a lock for the lineup on a nightly basis, especially with the addition of shutdown defender Brian Dumoulin in the offseason. Still, LaCombe will have the benefit of youth on his side, which could afford him more opportunities to earn his way into the lineup. From a fantasy perspective, Lacombe's numbers haven't been impressive enough to warrant adding him to most squads, though managers may want to monitor his play early on.
LaCombe ended his NCAA career on a high note, scoring nine goals and 35 points in 37 contests in his senior year with the University of Minnesota in 2022-23. With that behind him, he inked a two-year, entry-level contract with Anaheim and got his first taste of the NHL, recording one shot, one hit and nine blocks in two outings with the Ducks. Although LaCombe's offensive numbers in the NCAA are what stand out, he can play solid, positional defense too. He has the potential to be a good top-four defenseman and with the Ducks still rebuilding, the 22-year-old might find himself in that role right away in 2023-24.

LaCombe will replace Seth Jones, who has an upper-body injury, on the United States' roster for the 2026 Winter Olympics, USA Hockey announced Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
After not being named to the initial Olympic roster, the 25-year-old LaCombe has eight points in as many games. He has six goals, 25 assists, 103 shots on net, 42 hits and 83 blocked shots through 49 games this season. He'll look to stay hot with Anaheim in hopes of carving out a role in the Olympics.
