Signs overseas deal
Hakanpaa agreed to terms on a one-year contract with Finnish club Karpat on Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Hakanpaa was sidelined by a knee injury for much of the 2024-25 campaign, logging just two regular-season games with the Maple Leafs. His season-long deal with Karpat does include an NHL clause, which would allow him to be released should a team come calling.

Hakanpaa was in the Dallas lineup most every night last season before suffering a knee injury in a March game against the Kings which required surgery and ended his year. Hakanpaa finished with two goals, 12 points and 196 hits in 64 games. He had posted 200-plus hits each of the prior three years and Hakanpaa would have blown past that number once again had he not been injured. Hankapaa's fantasy value is limited to those looking for late-round help in the hits department.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Conditioning assignment possible
Hakanpaa, who is working his way back from a knee injury, might be sent to AHL Toronto on a conditioning assignment as part of his recovery, Lance Hornby of The Toronto Sun reports Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
Hakanpaa will start the season on long-term injured reserve, which means he won't be back in action until November at the earliest. Even once given the all-clear, the veteran defenseman is far from a lock for the lineup on a nightly basis, especially with Timothy Liljegren, Philippe Myers, Conor Timmins and Simon Benoit all competing for two blue-line spots.
