2025 Fantasy Outlook
After finally getting a taste of the postseason with the Oilers, Skinner joined the last-placed Sharks on a one-year, $3 million contract in the summer. He contributed just 16 goals and 29 points over 72 regular-season appearances in 2024-25. The top-six forward group of the Sharks has some talent to play with as Skinner looks to recapture his goal-scoring touch. He could become a trade chip at the deadline if San Jose remains in the basement of the league standings. He should average far more ice time with his new team, giving him a chance to increase his shot volume and goal-scoring in the 2025-26 campaign. Read Past Outlooks
Lands on unconditional waivers
Skinner was placed on unconditional waivers Monday for purposes of contract termination, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reports.
ANALYSIS
Skinner signed a one-year, $3 million contract with the Sharks last July. He has posted six goals, 13 points, 56 shots on net and 17 hits across 32 appearances with San Jose in the 2025-26 season. Assuming he clears and his contract gets terminated, he will become an unrestricted free agent.

Last season, Skinner recorded just 24 goals and 22 assists, including 12 power-play points, in 74 regular-season contests. As a result, the Sabres decided to part ways with the veteran winger by buying out the remaining three seasons of the eight-year, $72 million deal he signed with the club back in June of 2019. With free reign to sign wherever he wanted, the sharpshooter opted to join the Stanley Cup runner-ups in Edmonton. There will likely be an open competition to play on the top line with Connor McDavid, but even if Skinner finds himself on the second line, he will still be playing with an elite center in Leon Draisaitl. With that level of playmaking support, Skinner could challenge for the 40-goal threshold for just the second time in his career.
