2025 Fantasy Outlook
It was another brutal year of injuries for Gibson, as he was limited to 29 appearances in 2024-25, his lowest games-played total since 2014-15 (23), which was his second year in the league. The American netminder did have some positives, racking up an 11-11-2 record with a 2.77 GAA and a .911 save percentage. However, lengthy absences late in the season should give all fantasy managers pause about drafting and holding Gibson. He would have been blocked by Lukas Dostal in Anaheim, but Gibson was moved to the Red Wings at the draft, so he'll now be sharing the crease with Cam Talbot. Gibson is younger and more talented, so he should have the slight edge for starts, though staying healthy will be the biggest factor for his 2025-26 success. Read Past Outlooks
Leads slips away late Tuesday
Gibson made 24 saves in Tuesday's 4-3 loss to the Panthers.
ANALYSIS
The Red Wings held a 3-2 lead with 90 seconds to go in the third period, but Gibson gave up two goals to Carter Verhaeghe to flip the script. Gibson allowed more than three goals for the first time since the beginning of February. Over his last seven outings, he has posted a dazzling 1.85 GAA and .929 save percentage despite owning a 3-3-0 record.

Gibson, who's just 31, has wanted out of Anaheim for two years. Unfortunately, he's paid like a star (three years left at $6.4 AAV), but his performance has been mid at best. Last season, Gibson played in 46 games and went 13-27-2. His 3.54 GAA was bloated and his .888 save percentage was well below the league average of .899. Since he signed his eight-year deal, Gibson boasts an ugly 74-129-33 record. Sure, the Ducks are bad but surely a star goalie could lift them up. Nope - his 1.02 GSAx (goals saved above expected) was 52nd overall. Gibson will play in Anaheim because finding a suitor has been tough, but at the same time, they need to give Lukas Dostal lots of time in the paint. Gibson might get 40 games this season, but given his track record, he should stay on the wire.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Injury not expected to be serious
Head coach Todd McLellan said after Sunday's 3-0 win over New Jersey that Gibson, who exited the game due to an undisclosed injury, should be fine, Mike Morreale of NHL.com reports.
ANALYSIS
McLellan also relayed that Gibson got hit in a bad spot and didn't feel well after that happened, which resulted in Cam Talbot replacing Gibson in net for the start of the third period in Sunday's win. For now, the 32-year-old Gibson should be considered day-to-day ahead of Tuesday's road matchup against the Panthers.
