Slafkovsky has emerged as a power forward with a bright future early in his NHL career. He isn't the most consistent scorer, but he's leading the way as a top-line player already for the Canadiens, who are poised to be a competitive team in the Atlantic Division moving forward. Slafkovsky had 18 goals, 33 assists, 133 shots on net, 194 hits, 62 blocked shots and 45 PIM over 79 regular-season appearances in 2024-25. He's shot at least 13 percent in each of the last two years, which is a testament to the high level of skill that made him the No. 1 overall pick in 2022. When you tally 20 goals and 50 points, including 14 power-play points, in your first full NHL season, you generally get rewarded with a sizable NHL contract. That was the case for Slafkovsky, who signed a max-length eight-year, $60.8 million contract extension with the Canadiens this offseason. Based on his new deal, the team appears to be expecting even bigger things out of the 20-year-old power forward, something that certainly isn't out of the question - though he will need to avoid the dreaded sophomore slump. Barring that potential slump, Slafkovsky should be capable of producing at an elite level heading into the 2024-25 campaign, making him a top-end fantasy target.
