2025 Fantasy Outlook
Cooley recorded a solid 44 points as a rookie in 2023-24, and he took a big step forward as a sophomore by supplying 25 goals and 63 points across 75 appearances with Utah. Taken with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2022 NHL Draft, this is just the beginning of a promising career. It wouldn’t be surprising to see him grow further in 2025-26, perhaps generating a point per game while serving primarily on Utah’s first line. The only real downsides are that he doesn’t take a lot of shots relative to other high-end forwards -- he had 158 shots last season -- and he still needs to improve on the draw after posting a 44.7 percent win rate last year. However, those are trade-offs well worth making for the sake of having a player with so much offensive potential on your fantasy squad. Read Past Outlooks
Hat Trick in First Period
Cooley scored three goals, added an assist and fired four shots on target in Thursday's 7-4 win over St. Louis.
ANALYSIS
Cooley's first big performance of 2025-26 arrived in the form of a four-point first period, including a hat trick in which all three goals were tallied in the span of less than five minutes. It was one of the best individual performances to start a game in recent memory, and it brings the 21-year-old's season totals to five goals, two assists and 17 shots on net in eight games. His connection with Dylan Guenther and JJ Peterka on the second line was evident, and that unit will look to take a big step forward in 2025-26 to help the Mammoth make the postseason for the first time since their move to Salt Lake City. Cooley is on pace to build upon his 65-point output from a year ago and could be in store for a point total north of 70 for the first time in his three-year NHL career.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2024
2023
It was an outstanding rookie campaign for Cooley, as he suited up in all 82 regular-season games for the Coyotes. He earned 20 goals and 24 assists, including 13 power-play points, to go with 151 shots on goal, 50 hits and 27 blocked shots. In the end, the center finished the year fourth in the rookie points standings, just missing out on being a Calder Trophy finalist behind eventual winner Connor Bedard, Brock Faber and Luke Hughes. The upcoming 2024-25 campaign could feel like a second rookie year for the 20-year-old Cooley as the team moves to Utah and its new digs at the Delta Center. Assuming the Pittsburgh native takes another step in his development, he is more than capable of improving upon his rookie numbers, making him a top-end fantasy target - though the threat of a sophomore slump is certainly still on the table.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Turned down long-term extension
The Mammoth made an attempt to reach an extension with Cooley ahead of the 2025-26 regular season, but he turned down an eight-year deal worth nearly $77 million, NHL insider Frank Seravalli reports Monday.
ANALYSIS
Cooley is entering the final year of his entry-level contract, and he's slated to become a restricted free agent after the season. While previous reports suggested that the forward would be interested in an eight-year contract, the Mammoth's salary offer apparently wasn't to his liking. It's still possible that the two sides reach an agreement sometime during the 2025-26 campaign, but it seems unlikely that a deal will be reached ahead of the season.
