Schenn came over to the Jets through a pair of trades near the deadline, and while he didn’t produce too many points, brought value in other ways. Between Nashville and Winnipeg, the 35-year-old had just seven points (one goal, six assists) in 76 regular-season contests, but finished with 300 hits and 104 blocked shots. The 17-year NHL veteran is not an offensive threat -- he’s had just three seasons over 20 points in his entire lengthy career -- so he will rely solely on his hits and blocks to generate fantasy value. Schenn and Logan Stanley were traded to the Sabres from the Jets on Thursday in exchange for Isak Rosen, Jacob Bryson, a second-round pick and a fourth-round pick, Murat Ates of The Athletic reports.

Schenn continues to rack up frequent flier miles -- this is the third time he's been traded in the last year, give or take a day. Schenn is a physical defenseman who can bring critical physicality in a third-pairing role, but he's not a lock to be in the lineup regularly for the Sabres, who may want to keep Michael Kesselring active more often. Schenn is good insurance for any injuries that could happen down the stretch, and his physical play will also be useful if Buffalo is able to get into the playoffs. He has just seven points with 139 hits and 54 blocked shots over 46 outings this season.

Heading into the 2024-25 campaign, Luke Schenn should have the inside track on a lineup spot in the third pairing but will have the likes of Spencer Stastney and Marc Dal Gaizo breathing down his neck for minutes. The 34-year-old Schenn no doubt has the benefit of experience on his side, including last year when he saw action in 63 regular-season games for the Predators. In those outings, the 2008 fifth-overall pick managed one goal on 81 shots and six assists. While his offensive upside is limited, Schenn did dish out 202 hits while blocking 76 shots and could offer some value in banger formats.
