Hogberg turned aside 20 shots in Thursday's 6-1 loss to the Blue Jackets.
ANALYSIS
The 30-year-old netminder kept Columbus off the board in the first period, but things fell apart for the Islanders over the final 40 minutes of their season. Hogberg had a rough conclusion to his campaign, coughing up six or more goals in three of his last four starts, and his last win came back on Jan. 18 -- he went 0-4-3 over his last nine outings with a 4.60 GAA and .833 save percentage. Ilya Sorokin and Semyon Varlamov (lower body) are both under contract for 2025-26, but even if the latter's health remains in question, the Isles may look for an upgrade on Hogberg this offseason as their No. 3 goalie.

An injury to Matt Murray resulted in Hogberg seeing 14 games worth of NHL action this past season, far more than anyone could have initially expected. The results weren't promising (4-7-0, 3.74 GAA, .876 save percentage) and Hogberg, not liking the offers he received as an unrestricted free agent, elected to sign a four-year deal with Linkoping in his native Sweden. Never say never, but it's unlikely we see the 26-year-old return to North America at any point in the future.
Hogberg emerged as the Senators' No. 2 netminder last season, primarily due to Anders Nilsson's ongoing battle with concussion symptons, and he was decent in that role, posting a 5-8-8 record while maintaining a 3.12 GAA and .904 save percentage through 24 appearances behind one of the worst rosters in the league. Ottawa traded for Matt Murray and then signed him to a monster four-year extension in October, so he'll get the bulk of the starts in 2020-21, but Hogberg should still get a decent amount of work. Regardless, the Senators will likely once again be a bottom-five team this season, so don't count on Hogberg being a viable fantasy option.
Hogberg is just 18 years old and played just three games last season in Sweden, so it will be at least a couple years until he even makes the leap to the North American game.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Might not be ready to return
GNew York Islanders
February 19, 2025
Hogberg, who is dealing with an upper-body injury, hasn't appeared in a practice for the Islanders over the past two days, Andrew Gross of Newsday reports Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
The Islanders' first game after the 4 Nations Face-Off break will be Sunday versus Dallas, and while he hasn't been ruled out for that matchup, Hogberg's recent absence from practice availability in question. However, New York is expected to hold additional skates before Sunday, so there's still a chance that the 30-year-old goaltender will get some work in. The Islanders are also missing Semyon Varlamov, who is out indefinitely with a lower-body injury. If Hogberg and Varlamov are both on the shelf Sunday, then Jakub Skarek will likely serve as Ilya Sorokin's understudy.
