For the first time since 2020-21, Hogberg saw regular NHL action, as he filled in as the Islanders' backup goalie after a knee surgery brought an early end to Semyon Varlamov's season. Hogberg still didn't see much time, posting a 2-6-3 record with a 3.38 GAA and a .878 save percentage. Hogberg's peak is as a backup goalie, and if Varlamov and Ilya Sorokin are both healthy, he's No. 3 on the organizational depth chart for the Islanders. An injury to Matt Murray resulted in Hogberg seeing 14 games worth of NHL action this past season, far more than anyone could have initially expected. The results weren't promising (4-7-0, 3.74 GAA, .876 save percentage) and Hogberg, not liking the offers he received as an unrestricted free agent, elected to sign a four-year deal with Linkoping in his native Sweden. Never say never, but it's unlikely we see the 26-year-old return to North America at any point in the future.
