Blankenburg has found a home with the Predators, finishing 2024-25 on the team's top pair and power play. The 27-year-old recorded four goals and 12 assists for a career high of 16 points in 60 games. The return of Roman Josi (concussion) to the team's lineup may cut into his ice time, especially on the power play, but there is some potential for more offense from Blankenburg. A former captain at the University of Michigan, Blankenburg received far more NHL action than most expected a season ago due to Zach Werenski's shoulder injury. He appeared in 36 games for the team and was effective, posting four goals and 10 points while averaging 1:15 per game with the man advantage. Werenski is healthy now, and Ivan Provorov and Damon Severson have arrived via trade to fill top-four roles for the club, meaning Blankenburg is looking at either a third-pairing gig or a trip to AHL Cleveland to start the 2023-24 campaign.
