Lycksell didn't do much in his NHL chances with the Flyers, earning a total of 11 points in 45 regular-season games over the last three campaigns after being drafted in the sixth round in 2017. He signed with the Senators this offseason, but he's looking at a bottom-six role at best with his new organization. The 26-year-old winger will compete for a roster spot in training camp, but he may ultimately be AHL depth -- he had 44 points in 43 regular-season outings with AHL Lehigh Valley last year, so he can certainly score in the minors, which could earn him call-ups throughout the year. Lycksell scored a goal on three shots with a plus-1 rating in Thursday's 2-1 win over the Flyers.
ANALYSIS
The former Flyer got some sweet revenge when he potted his first goal of the season early in the second period, converting a slick between-the-legs feed from Claude Giroux to give Ottawa a 2-1 lead that held up. Lycksell has been a consistently dangerous scorer in the minors, including 19 goals and 44 points in 43 contests last season for AHL Lehigh Valley, but he hasn't been able to replicate that production at the top level yet. Through 49 career NHL regular-season games dating back to 2022-23, Lycksell has just two goals and 12 points, and bouncing between the Senators' fourth line and the press box isn't going to give him many chances to show he has more to offer.
