2025 Fantasy Outlook
Palat's numbers continue to trend down, but the Devils are not yet pinched enough to be bothered by it, especially when he provides steady defensive play and veteran leadership. At 34 years old, Palat is probably better suited for third-line minutes and penalty killing time more than top-six and power-play usage. He still chipped in 15 goals, 28 points, 96 shots on net, 124 hits and 58 blocked shots over 77 regular-season appearances last season. His playing style during his time with the Devils has not been fantasy friendly anyway, and more age-related declines on offense are to be expected. Palat's physical enough to have appeal in some formats, but he probably won't be drafted in most standard leagues this fall. Read Past Outlooks
Finally finds back of net
Palat scored his first goal of the season in Thursday's 4-3 overtime win over the Canadiens.
ANALYSIS
The veteran winger had just one lonely assist through his first 13 games of the season, but Palat finally got off the schneid by slotting home a nifty no-look pass from Simon Nemec midway through the second period. Palat has scored double-digit goals during each of the last five seasons in which he's played at least 50 games, including 15 goals and 28 points in 77 regular-season contests in 2024-25.

It may be time to admit Palat is nothing more than a checking-line winger at this stage of his career, even with the seemingly limitless potential of the Devils' offense heading into 2024-25. Palat drew into 71 games a year ago and produced 31 points (11 goals, 20 assists) while adding 92 hits, 37 PIM and 108 shots on goal. The 33-year-old certainly isn't returning value on par with his $6 million cap hit, at least from a scoring standpoint. If he gets a look at top-six minutes, there's a chance he pushes for the 40-point and 100-hit thresholds once again, but there's little reason to expect a bounce-back year is in the cards.

Not headed to Worlds
Palat will not be taking part in the 2025 IIHF World Championship, Amanda Stein of the Devils' official site reports Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Palat failed to find the back of the net in five postseason contests, generating two assists, five shots and 15 hits while averaging 17:40 of ice time. The 34-year-old winger has failed to reach the 30-point mark in two of the last three regular seasons, in part due to injuries, as he hasn't reached the 80-game mark in the regular season since the 2013-14 campaign. Given his lack of durability and decreased productivity, Palat may be more of a waiver-wire option than a draft pick this upcoming fantasy season.
